💩Diarrhea (loose, watery p**p) tends to be a common problems in kids.
👉🏼It can sometimes be caused by a virus, a reaction to a food, drinking too much juice, or a new medication/antibiotics.
✅Here is a list of "gentle on the stomach" foods that might be able to create a more firm/bulkier p**p.
If your kid has iron deficiency anemia or if your baby is only drinking breastmilk, the pediatrician might send them some iron supplementation in the form of drops or pills.
👉🏼Iron should be taken on an empty stomach or with foods containing Vitamin C 🍊 to improve absorption.
👉🏼On the other side, Calcium (milk, yogurt, cheese) 🧀 🥛 tends to COMPETE with iron and when fighting with iron, calcium usually wins...and iron might not be best absorbed.
👧🏻So if your kid is drinking milk, try to offer milk at least 1-2hours after their iron supplementation.
Dehydration is one of the biggest concerns when your kid is vomiting or having diarrhea 🤢💩
👉🏼The treatment for dehydration depends on how severe it is (mild vs severe). Mild dehydration can be treated at home, however, severe dehydration might need further medical treatment.
👇🏽Here are things you can do to help with mild dehydration:
💧Water (for kids >+1 year)
💧Oral rehydration solutions (ORS) like Pedialyte and Enfalyte
**If it's an infant (
🥛 Here is a list of the type of milks that are appropriate once your baby turns 1️⃣:
✅Whole Cow's Milk
✅Soy Milk (if plant based option preferred/needed)
❌Almond, rice, oat "milk" or any other alternative of plant-based milks, unless medically indicated. These do not count with all the nutrients and vitamins that your baby needs in those first 2 years of life.
❌ "Transitional/Toddler" formulas. These tend to be expensive and truly unnecessary! They do not provide any nutritional benefit over cow's or soy milk or a balanced diet.
PS:
👉🏼If you are breastfeeding, Is okay to continue to do so after 1 year of age and there’s no need to introduce any other milk
👉🏼This post is meant to cover the ages 1-2 years old, given that the needs for fats are higher in this stage
👉🏼There might be exceptions due to certain medical conditions. Always talk with your pediatrician and dietitian if that’s the case to help you with the best option for your kid.
Did you know that ALL Carbohydrates are converted into sugar by the body? 🥞🍎🍌
Here are some things you should know:
⭐️Carbs are your body's main source of energy
⭐️All babies, toddlers, and children need them in their diet...no reason to avoid them 😬 (yes, even if they have Type 1 Diabetes)
⭐️Carbs are not "bad." Just as anything else, too much or too little of it can cause health problems. It's all about balance!😉

Did you know that there are some foods that might not be safe for your baby in their first year of life? ⚠️
Here are a few:
Honey🍯 -->May cause a serious type of food poisoning known as "botulism."
Salt🧂-->The maximum recommended amount of salt for babies 6-12months is 370 grams per day, which is almost at maximum 1/8 tsp per day. Higher amounts of salt could cause issues with your baby's kidneys.
Milk 🥛-->Will contain more protein and minerals that your baby needs and therefore, your baby's kidneys might not be prepare for it. Providing cow's milk in infants They all contain either too much sugar or salt for your baby and both sugar and juice are advised to be avoided for the first year of life by the AAP.
Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends allergens and non-allergens foods as early as 4-6 months of age?🤯
➡️Recent research has shown that earlier introduction of allergens could help prevent the development of food allergies 🥜🦀🐟

🍭Sugar comes in many forms, including: table sugar, brown sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, honey, high-fructose corn-syrup, malt sugar, molasses...list is long! 🍰🍭🍯
🤔And did you know that it does not matter if you are using table sugar vs brown sugar vs honey? In general all this options will have the same/similar amount of carbohydrate/sugar content 🤯😵💫
So how much sugar should I give my baby or child? 👶🏼👧🏻
The AAP recommends:
🚫AVOIDING these added sugars for children under 2 years of age
👉🏼Less than 25 grams of sugar (6 tsp or 2 Tbsp) per day for children 2-18 years of age.
Are you about to be a new mom or just had a baby? 🍼👶🏼
The first few days might be overwhelming! There are a lot of new things happening and you are learning as you go! But what is normal?🤷🏻♀️
It is completely normal that:
⭐️Your baby losses 7-10% of their birth weight in the first few days. 😨
⭐️Your baby might want to eat VERY OFTEN in the first days of life AND for SHORT PERIODS. It might be that your baby might ask for milk as often as every 15-30 minutes. This is NORMAL and NO, this does NOT MEAN you are not producing enough milk! 🍼
⭐️Your baby should regain their birth weight by the time he/she is 10-14 days old 👶🏼
🚨🚩If your baby loses more weight than what is expected or is starting to turn a bit yellow in color, or has not regained their birth weight, please consult with your pediatrician and dietitian! 👩🏻⚕️
