Our respiration fuels everything ~ from our mental clarity to our ability to rest.
Breath is life.
Yet, how often do we truly engage with it?
Most of the people I meet are not breathing using the diaphragm, but by using the muscles of the ribcage and back.
When you breath using those muscles, the breath is short and shallow, barely reaching the bottom of the lungs where the highest exchange rate of oxygen to the body occurs.
Oxygen powers our body, and lack of it causes so many different health issues from lack of mental clarity, to poor metabolism, and even changes the bone structure of our face.
Short and shallow breathing also stresses the system, causing anxiety.
The Yogic Science of Pranayama unveils how to tap into our Essential Energy, regulating our chemistry, and helping us navigate life's ups and downs with the skill of a seasoned sailor.
So beginning in October, I am leading a course on applied breathwork, how to breath majestically in our everyday life.
You will learn all foundational breathwork and how to use it throughout the day to improve your health, clear your mind, fall to sleep with ease, and breath stress and anxiety out of your life.
This isn't just another course; it's a gateway to mastering your life's essence through the power of breath.
Imagine a life where your breath isn't just a reflex but a tool for mastering your mind, emotions, and energy.
This course reclaims that connection to our essential energy, teaching you to breathe with intention, transforming your everyday experience.
Using ancient yogic pranayama technology, we'll explore the nature of the breath in a way thats designed to integrate seamlessly into your daily life.
Not just be something you practice for a few minutes a day, but a way of breathing through life that brings joy and clarity.
Whether you're new to breathwork or looking to expand your practice, this course offers insights and practices tailored to your level of experience.
What You'll Gain:
You'll enhance your respiratory health by learning to clear congestion, increase lung capacity, and breathe more efficiently.
We'll delve into understanding how breath links your physical, mental, and spiritual states, empowering you with control over your well-being.
From mastering foundational techniques like Nadi Shodhana to exploring advanced pranayama, you'll learn how to alter your energy, clarity, and emotional balance.
Life's too short to let it just happen to you.
With breath work, you take the helm.
Imagine the clarity, the energy, the peace that comes from mastering your breath.
This course isn't just about learning to breathe; it's about learning to live more fully, more intentionally.
If you're ready to transform your life, to breathe with purpose, to harness your inner power, I invite you to join us. Let's explore together how breath can be the key to unlocking your highest potential.
For any questions or to secure your spot, email me back.
*Due to the personal attention I like to give in my courses, attendance will be limited to 15 people.
This ensures the best experience for everyone, and major personal transformation.
I look forward to guiding you through this enlightening journey.
I don't care how hard you train or how smart you are...
If your nervous system is hyperactive, you will always struggle to perform under pressure, lack confidence in crucial moments, and be at the mercy of external influences hijacking your nervous system.
The good news is you can train your central nervous system(CNS) to be resilient.
Here are two potent ways to do so:
1. Breathwork:
Breathwork is the #1 tool to train CNS resilience.
Specifically training intermittent hypoxia forces you to practice mental calm in a low oxygen environment.
Practice:
Wim Hof Method: Take 30 breaths, relax, this is not a panic breathing exercise, then hold your breath after the last exhale for as long as you can.
(Bonus: do an extra inhale-exhale-hold in between breathing rounds for enhanced adaptation)
Inhale deeply to end the round.
Buteyko Breathing: Breathe as little as possible.
Breathe in and out through your nose, focusing on slow, controlled breaths. Focus on not moving your nose hairs, and keeping the breath in a tight circle.
Regular practice of these techniques will train muscle memory of being mentally calm in a low oxygen / highly acidic environment.
On a physiological level, intermittent hypoxia is will:
- Neuroprotection
- Cognitive enhancements
- Enhanced fat metabolism
- Enhanced immune response
- Increased glucose metabolism
- Enhanced respiratory efficiency
- Improve cardiovascular function
- Enhanced blood vessel formation (angiogenesis)
- Increased red blood cell production (erythropoiesis)
Effectively your RHR will be lower, you will have less anxiety, increased focus, and the ability to stay composed in high-pressure situations.
2. Meditation:
Meditation is practiced by every high performer maybe ever. If you aren't regularly meditating idk what you're doing.
By holding your attention on something for an extended period of time, you enhance your ability to stay present and maintain mental clarity during crucial moments.
Brain Feeling Meditation:
One of my favorite meditation practices.
Sit in a meditative posture:
Focus on feeling your entire body all at once.
Then feel only the right side of your brain.
Then your entire body again.
Then the left side of your brain.
Then your entire brain all at once.
See how long you can hold your attention there.
This meditation will prove to you that energy flows where attention goes.
Consistently training your conscious superpowers: Intention & Attention, will give you the muscle memory to remain in your power when you're under pressure.
The Buddhist and Vedic theory of samskaras refers to dysfunctional patterns that trace their origins not only to childhood and birth traumas, but also to previous lifetimes.
The law of karma is related to these samskaras. According to them, every moment lived unconsciously creates samskaras, or karmic imprints, where the light from the soul gets dimmed.
Some are like a line drawn in water, which are immediately cleared. Others are like a line drawn on sand. They remain for a while until the tide comes in and washes them clean.
Yet others are like a line etched in stone. These are the ones that replicate themselves lifetime after lifetime, always attracting similar energy patterns, and creating misery.
These samskaras are the dark soot in an otherwise clear lamp that obstruct the light of our inner self from shining through.

Meditation is frustrating!
"I try to meditate, but I can't. I just get mad and quit."
I totally understand.
I've been there, so let's understand what is happening, and how to meditate correctly like a yogi in the Himalayas.
While leading meditation courses for over 30 years, I saw the same obstacle come up for nearly everyone who tries to do one form of meditation or another.
**Guided meditation are not the subject of this, but self practice is. A guided meditation is more of preparatory practices to relieve stress, or lift someone out of a negative pattern.
Once a person is curious to try meditation on their own, they usually have the idea that it should feel peaceful and calm with heightened clarity. π
But what usually occurs, is you sit down, and the body feels agitated and wants to move every 15-30 seconds.
The mind starts generating whirlwinds of distracted thoughts, and the person realizes they are far from calm or peaceful and they quit, thinking meditation is not for them.
Or that it's really hard, or maybe even it's impossible. π±
Contrary to popular belief, the ultimate goal of meditation is not to achieve a constant state of tranquility or to escape from the chaos of our daily lives.
Instead, the true essence of meditation lies in cultivating awareness.
Even if we find ourselves feeling dull or agitated during meditation, the key is to remain aware of these states. π
Meditation isn't about achieving a state of Zen-like tranquility or becoming a human version of a tranquilized sloth. π
It actually makes you more alive, more dynamic.
Not afraid to see your own darknesses, and mistakes.
~ and now here is the kicker, and to acknowledge any mistake and just do better in a more realized direction. That simple.
If you're chasing after peace and calm, only accepting certain experiences as valid or spiritual, most likely you will become more agitated.
This is because by forcing one experience, we repress and avoid what is actually occurring.
This puts a lie, or a distortion on our ability to perceive the subtleties of life around us, thus limiting our abilities.
By seeing, acknowledging and not repressing, we can adjust our thoughts, speech and actions in accordance with new realizations.
If we are not controlled by a false ego or holding too tightly to a previous identity.
The real goal of meditation is to achieve a state of heightened awareness.
When you are aware of this moment, and the way choices spread out around you, you are not in the space of ruminating the past, or daydreaming about the future.
And this is where your super powers are.
So when you sit down to meditate, make the body comfortable either on a meditation cushion if your hips and knees are used to sitting cross-legged, or in a chair with back support.
The spine must be upright and in correct position.
This why we practice the physical yogas, to be able to hold the spine in a supported and ease-filled way, without feeling the need to fidget or adjust ourselves constantly, which creates distractions and doorways into the past or future.
Think of it as mindfulness on steroids. π
So when you're "trying" to be calm or peaceful, you're actually resisting your natural state.
It's like trying to hold a beach ball underwater β the harder you push, the more it pops back up.
The same goes for your thoughts and emotions during meditation.
The key to successful meditation is not to suppress your thoughts or feelings, but to acknowledge them and let them pass.
It's like being a curious observer of your own mind, watching the chaos unfold without getting swept up in it.
So, the next time you sit down to meditate, remember: it's not about achieving a state of calm or peace.
It's about embracing the chaos, observing your thoughts, and cultivating a deeper awareness of your inner world.
The more you practice just this, you will realize something very precious, and then get the result of a true meditative awareness.
And I am not telling you what that is, you will have to be curious enough to look. π
Avidya is usually translated as ignorance, which is a good word, so long as we keep in mind the subtlety of the meaning. It is not a matter of gaining more knowledge, like going to school, and having this add up to receiving a degree.
Rather, ignorance is something that is removed, like removing the clouds that obstruct the view. Then, with the ignorance (or clouds) removed, we see knowledge or Vidya clearly.
Even in English, this principle is in the word ignorance.
Notice that the word contains the root of ignore, which is an ability that is not necessarily negative.
The ability to ignore allows the ability to focus.
Imagine that you are in a busy restaurant, and are having a conversation with your friend. To listen to your friend means both focusing on listening, while also ignoring the other conversations going on around you.
However, in the path of Self-realization, we want to see past the veil of ignorance, to no longer ignore, and to see clearly.
~ a part of the understandings from Yoga Sutra 2.5
"Ignorance (avidya) is of four types: 1) regarding that which is transient as eternal, 2) mistaking the impure for pure, 3) thinking that which brings misery to bring happiness, and 4) taking that which is not-self to be self."
2.5 antiya ashuchi duhkha anatmasu nitya shuchi sukha atman khyatih avidya

Unpacking some of the teachings around discipline that are part of the skills we cultivate in yoga. And it's probably not what you think...
Most people have a negative relationship with discipline.
Changing this relationship is one of the first necessities in experiencing success in yoga.
Check out a few key components in the underlying structure of discipline that seem unrelated, but actually create the foundation for being a total badass. π

What is the difference between toothpastes by the color of the strip?
The color of the strip on the tube of toothpaste indicates the ratio of natural and chemical ingredients in the composition.
π’ A green stripe means that the paste has the most natural composition. It is suitable for daily use.
π΄ A red stripe means that the paste has a balanced composition of natural and chemical ingredients. It is suitable for daily use, but people with allergies should be careful when choosing it.
π΅ A blue stripe indicates a high-intensity composition that contains up to 80% chemicals. It can be used on a regular basis, but should be alternated with other, less active gels.
β«οΈ A black stripe indicates a fully chemical formulation that contains a high concentration of active ingredients. It is therapeutic and not intended for daily use.
βοΈ It is important not only to pay attention to the color of the strip, but also to carefully study the composition of the toothpaste.

Picture this....
You're standing at the crossroads of your life, with a myriad of paths stretching out before you.
Each path promises a different journey, but which one will lead you to a future filled with joy, serenity, and self-discovery?
For those of you who grew up in the 80s or before, remember those pick your own adventure books?
Enter the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali β an ancient treasure trove of wisdom that has guided countless seekers on their quest for inner peace and enlightenment.
Well, you know what they say,
"It's all fun and games until someone forgets the Yoga Sutras." π
But seriously, the Yoga Sutras are like the cool, mysterious cousin of the yoga world that everyone seems to have forgotten about.
Patanjali's Yoga Sutras are the original guidebook to yoga, but they're often overshadowed by trendy yoga pants and Instagram poses.
This ancient text contains 196 sutras, which are like little nuggets of wisdom for the mind, body, and soul.
You could just do a quick downward dog and call it a day, the real offering of transformation comes in the higher yogas which expand the dimensions of our being. π
One unique aspect of the Yoga Sutras is the concept of "Chitta," which is the mind-stuff that we're all trying to control.
It's like a wild monkey swinging from tree to tree, but instead of trees, it's our thoughts and emotions.
The Yoga Sutras teach us how to tame the monkey mind and find inner peace, instead of just binge-watching your favorite show and forgetting about your problems.
Another forgotten gem in the Yoga Sutras is the concept of "Pratyahara," or sense withdrawal.
This is the practice of turning our attention inward and detaching from the distractions of the outside world. It's like putting on a pair of noise-canceling headphones for your soul. π
We learn to replace scrolling through social media and getting lost in the digital world with tuning into to our inner dimensions.
The Yoga Sutras are a treasure trove of ancient wisdom that's been largely forgotten in our fast-paced, modern world.
But hey, who needs inner peace and enlightenment when you have avocado toast and Netflix, right? π±
Lol, I do, fo' sure. Not sure how I would make it without this ancient map.
The Yoga Sutras have the power to change your future life.
But often we are busy looking at the past and wishing we had made different choices.
On the journey of self-transformation, we must remember that change is inevitable.
Just like the seasons, our lives are in a constant state of flux.
But by embracing the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras and committing to the art of self-transformation, we can create a future that is vastly different from our past.
In this way, a yogi is born. π
An awakened and skillful being with a clear and effective consciousness.

Exciting news for Winter Lips!
Say goodbye to chapped lips!
What annoys me, since I am in the desert, is having to reapply lip products constantly.
This wonderful new natural lip plumper I have just created keeps your lips hydrated about twice as long, and as an added bonus, it also gently plumps your lips.
No need to get worried, you won't suddenly develop fish lips or look like Kim Kardashian. π
This lip plumper has more of a therapeutic benefit than a cosmetic one. π
My brand-new natural lip plumper with Hyaluronic acid also features cold-pressed, organic rosehip oil and fresh organic cacao butter.
These are both antioxidant powerhouses to give you soft, bright, healthy lips. π
I also used organic hazelnut, not a commonly used ingredient, but wow, it is lovely for softening and soothing lips.
Now, I have been working on this formulation for way too long, and the reason was trying to pick the 'flavor'.
I made several versions that were so delicious!
But, I kept licking the product off my lips.π
So I had to remind myself of the purpose of this creation.
Which sadly, is not a vanilla strawberry dessert, but lip protection and plumping!
And I tried blueberry and chocolate.
Then just chocolate, several different versions.
Then a multi-layered vanilla using vanilla bourbon and dried vanilla crystal powder, again, same issue.
Each version tasted so yummy.
And they all really worked - but one problem, you are just gonna eat it. π
Because I want this to stay on your lips, so I decided to make it with no extra flavor. π±
Which means it smells lightly of cacao butter, with a hint of honey.
But more importantly, this is the best natural lip plump you are ever likely to find, and it's made 100% fresh, and all natural....
Happy Full Moon!
Tonight at sunset, check out the moonrise!
December's "Cold Moon" is the longest full moon, and last of 2023.
This means it will shine bright for several nights and look full until Thursday morning, rising as the sun sets the next couple of nights.
"The full moon takes a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite to the low sun, so the moon will be above the horizon longer than at other times of the year," according to NASA.
The astrology for this year has been quite challenging, and this last lunar event is a mostly pleasant one, with emotions rising around areas of opposing forces, such as work versus home or what you need versus what you want.
This can create an inner tension and external pressures, leading to a conflict on the inside that can drain your energy.
To deal with this influence, I have found the easiest way to handle any internal conflict is to journal and look at it. π
I sit and I write down the internal conflict and any emotions, so it is not playing out inside of me.
In this way I can see clearly if anything needs to be addressed or shifted, or it is just the internal wobble brought to light by the moon's illumination of the unseen.

On the long walk into rise festival of lights in the desert
I am very excited to share this news with you!
Are you ready for an adventure?
After 4 years of teaching online only, I have several in-person courses coming up this November in Peru!
Back in 2019, I was just starting to put content online.
I was really jazzed about being able to provide online resources since my teaching locations were all over the world, and I haven't yet mastered the ability to be in two places at once. π
In the beginning of lockdowns, we were all able to connect and practice together thru that platform, so it was a real blessing.
But after years and years of talking to a computer only, I cannot wait to teach in person.
What a joy!
So I am inviting you to join me in a series of immersions and workshops in Lima, Peru. π
Lima is one of the coolest cities I have been to. It is built on top of ocean cliffs, and you can walk all along this.
Along much of the ocean cliffs is a beautiful path that winds thru many gardens full of exotic plants and flowers.
Below is Lover's Park, there is artwork everywhere, some of it serene and beautiful, some of it strange and thought provoking.
So if you like to travel around the Thanksgiving holiday, this might be a wonderful adventure where you can immerse yourself in yoga on the weekends, and visit Peru during the week.
And if you live in Lima, see you soon! The course is offered in English and Spanish. π
Cusco and the Sacred Valley is a short, epic plane ride into the Andes, where you can visit ancient sites, and see the old, forgotten style of stonework.
During my time in Lima, I have two featured intensives, the first one is designed to give you the tools to transform your emotions, energy and mental clarity using the breath.
This course focuses on the most effective breath techniques to regulate our physical, mental and emotional states during daily life.
This is game changing information. β£οΈ
You will learn the relationship between breath and our embodied experience both in theory, and with a lot of practical applications to raise the vibration in all levels of your life.
I am very stoked to speak on this subject. π
The second course is Full Body Flow.
