Rickie's Parrot and Exotic Rescue and Sanctuary of South Florida
We are a 501(c)3 Parrot and Exotic Rescue located in the state of Florida. We service the state of Florida and beyond. We don’t judge. Life happens. Thank you!
Rickie’s Parrot and Exotic Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc., (“RPER”) takes in parrots and exotic animals that many other rescues turn away. We specialize in the special needs, sick, neglected and abused. RPER welcomes these babies knowing that they come with large medical bills as well as physical and emotional damage. RPER provides medical care and works to gain the trust of these babies so that they
Cuddles totally remembered his mommy. They also made a donation which will be put on rescuing another bird. And yes! I was in tears.
Thank you for supporting my decision when it comes to Cuddles!!! It means a lot to me and I truly believe we are doing the right thing.
Sprout and Peeper in their new home.
Sprout and Peeper (my white eye babies) were adopted today. I got to see Leon and Princess while I was there…and Princess totally remembered me!!! BUT HER GRANDSON was there too. So I told him that the conures were babies and it would be ok if grandma renamed them. Tee hee. So I said…well they are green…what about Pickles… he didn’t like that!!!!! So now Maria is stuck with the names Cucumber and Cactus!!!!! 😂
serpa I didn’t do it!!
Here’s the thing. I could have just said that Cuddles was adopted and left it at that. But I have always been honest with you.
I’m writing this in notebook knowing I’m going to want to change it a lot. I received a call from another rescue (and they are a good rescue) it appears that Cuddles is their bird. They adopted him to a family in Miami 6 months ago. They knew it was him from my posts and his video. They also sent me links to videos of him when they had him. They are asking that I return him to them. Not because they want to adopt him out again…but the president had fallen in love with him and he loved her. At the time, her husband hubby said no. But after all of this…he’s 200% on board!!!
She was going to take him home with her until Cuddles seemed to pick another person. The rescue did their due diligence…home check, application, etc. but unfortunately as much as we would like to…we can’t see inside someone…to see if they have what it takes to own a Moluccan. We all make mistakes. I texted the donors that sent the largest donations to bail him out…not that the rest of you don’t matter…you do so much..but I was already confused and adding too many voices was going to complicate my decision.I have some amazing applications for him but I also believe that rescues need to work together. Legally I could tell them that they can’t him back (their issue is with the adopters, not me or this rescue) but in my heart…I don’t feel like it’s the right thing to do. We set out to save him from the flea market.. and we accomplished that … which I hope you feel as good about that as I do. The video is the person I’ve decided he needed to go home to. His mommy. The person he loves. I will add a pic in the comments of the home he is going to.
RESCUES NEED TO WORK WITH OTHER RESCUES!!!!!
Lmao! So I brought in Peeper and Sprout to their new home and left with them being named cucumber and Cactus! And no matter what anyone says
…I had nothing to do with it!
Sprout and peepers went to their new home today. 😞 Best home ever but they were my babies!
Not bird related but definitely me this morning. Ugh! And the more grey you have the harder it is to untangle!

I was extremely upset to see that the 2 blue and golds and the sulphur crested cockatoo were returned to the flea market! If you follow this page…karma will find you!!!
They were purchased from the flea market by someone who wanted to breed them and more than likely found out they were beyond breeding age and returned them. :(
I’m taking it slow with Cuddles. As loving as most cockatoos are they can also be unpredictable. So far he has shown no sign of aggression. He put his foot up today to step up but settled for head scritches instead (I was feeding at the time). His vocabulary is amazing.
Today it was “good morning” “hello mommy” and “hello dear” (says it like a grandma would..dragging out the dear”)
***this is a freedom ride picture..so it’s a carrier. lol not sure what I was thinking with the angle of the camera though! And what’s funny…behind the carrier is my Walmart haul! Just like a little kid…he got into all the bags in the way home. 😂
ALERT: Burlington, Vermont
Get all details, sample letter, contact information, and more at www.usark.org/24vt
Burlington is considering a ban on all “exotic animals.” This ban includes fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, and any animal that is not specifically exempted from the definition of “exotic animal” (see below). Hidden in a 71-page presentation from the Dog Task Force is this proposed ban, along with the false claim that the “needs of exotic animals cannot be met in captivity” and other animal rights propaganda. Local residents need to show up and speak up!
The definition of “exotic animal” includes aquarium fish, leopard geckos, parakeets, corn snakes, hedgehogs, all other non-domesticated species, and even some domesticated animals, including parakeets, cockatiels, koi, goldfish, and more. Legislative intent does not matter when the language of the law clearly bans almost all species of pets. To make this even worse, this is hidden on the meeting agenda and labeled as “Dog Task Force Report Review.”
Meeting: Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM, 645 Pine Street (Public Works Department) in the Front Conference Room (Yes, on Election Day!)
All exotic animals will be banned and “exotic animal” means all animals except domestic dogs, domestic cats, domestic mice, domestic rats, domestic rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, the European ferret, and livestock as defined by Title 6, section 791 of the Vermont Statutes.
NOTE: Under Vermont law (6 V.S.A. § 791): “Livestock” means cattle, calves, sheep, swine, horses, mules, goats, fallow deer, American bison, poultry, and any other animal that can or may be used in and for the preparation of meat, fiber, or poultry products. (Apparently, you can own a bison but not a guppy.)

Tony just revealed his real name….and it’s…Cuddles. He says “Hi Cuddles!”
The owners had to have had a child in the house! When he calls mommy…there’s a whole different tone/voice that he uses and he literally sounds like a small child. The first time he did it..I was looking for a kid. He got me again today too!
The earliest I could get Tony in is on Monday the 11th at 2pm. If you can help with the vet bill…it would be super appreciated. If you can’t but can share the post…much appreciated too. As always…the clinic information is first if you would like to donate directly to the vet. Thanks everyone!!!

But they are going to the best home!!!! And they will be with Leon!!!!
There is a ton of interest in Tony. I will call tomorrow to schedule his vet visit.
He calls for mommy. 😞. He’s breaking my heart.
I was able to get him for 200.00 less. So once we have info on the lory in the bird store I may make the trip to go and get him/her.
So cute.
Tony Freedom ride!
On my way
The young man (a high school student) that I have never met but contacted me to help birds in the bird store he frequents has named the Moluccan for us…his name is Tony!
I told this young man I will offer my help to this store owner. Not everyone is educated in the care of animals. I would rather help them with education so that they take better “educated” care of the animals in the future! We need everyone to help! I would rather help these birds have more places to go then to tear down a place that may be somewhere you can trust and refer birds to.
It’s funny…I have referred birds in the past to other rescues I have trusted…but they are becoming few and far between as they show their true selves.
Freedom ride in the morning!!!
