Today is International Water Safety Day, a sobering reminder of the importance of knowing how to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe around water. 💦

Reflecting on this day, I can’t help think of Anna, whose tragic drowning could have been prevented if we only knew then what we know now. 😔

We can’t change the past, but we can certainly shape the future. 🌈

Do you know the hand signal most lifeguards use to call for help?

It is a fist straight up in the air over the head.

This is a deliberate and unnatural motion in the water.

A wave of the hand or arm could be mistaken for saying hi to someone or waving someone off.

The fist in the air is a sign for help.

Have your people practice it and only use it when truly in need of help.

Swimming is a life skill that everyone should have. But there is more to it than just knowing basic swimming skills. It’s about being water competent.

Children — particularly kids younger than 5 — consistently have the highest drowning rate, nearly 25 percent of deaths from drowning are children under the age of 14.

Learning to swim is the surest way to being safer in the water,” said Debbie Hesse, USA Swimming Foundation Executive Director. “In the US, 10 people drown a day but drownings are preventable.

KidFit Swim Academy
KFSA offers a half day swim camp 9:15 am to 12:15 pm Monday through Friday for students 3-10 years of age (swimmers must be 3 years of age prior to their start date and potty trained).

Students can enroll for two to eight weeks of enrollment with 2 consecutive weeks needed to kickstart success.
