Despite the inclement weather, we persevered and made the most of our last day at CampHERO. The campers got the opportunity to ride on MFD and MPD vessels and apply the skills they acquired throughout the week in a realistic critical incident scenario.

During day 5 of CampHERO girls learned medical skills and toured a Bell Ambulance. They also learned self defense techniques and how to fingerprint suspects.

During day 4 of CampHERO girls got to extinguish fires, work with ladders and practice clearing room clearing with S.W.A.T members!

During day 3 of CampHERO the girls worked with MFD’s Hazmat team and practiced foot pursuits/vehicle contact with MPD.

Day 2 of CampHERO was filled with so many activities!
The girls got to repel off a building, utilize extrication tools, visit the mounted patrol unit at MKE Stables, learn fire arm safety and practice dispatching.

Every summer the Milwaukee Fire Department, Milwaukee Police Department, Fire & Police Commission - MKE, Milwaukee Area Technical College and the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast partner up to host CampHERO.
CampHERO provides young ladies (ages 13-19) with the hands on training and instruction from a predominantly female first responder staff to teach school aged girls what it takes when it comes to a career in emergency medicine, fire suppression and law enforcement.

The Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute’s next meeting is October 1 from 9 AM - 12 PM. The topic will build off of last month’s discussion on Ladder Operations, and we’ll be working on the following:
🪜 Ladder raises
🪟 Preparing for window rescue
🏠 Interior search and rescue on a charged hose line
🔥 Movement to windows or interior stairs for rapid egress
We will incorporate SCBA, and a Milwaukee Fire Bell representative will speak on what a fire bell is. The meeting will start in the utility building at 6680 N Teutonia Ave; email [email protected] with any questions.
