If you’ve seen the movie Cast Away, you’ll remember Wilson. In the movie, the volleyball from Wilson Sporting Goods became a character in its own right. It is one of the most recognizable examples of product placement in popular culture. Another major one (in the same movie): FedEx.
The Wilson volleyball appearance (and co-star role!) in the film helped further cement Wilson as a household name. The company even sells volleyballs with the Wilson face… as of this post, they’re out of stock.
