My office is aware of an incident that happened last night in Merrick. We are working closely with the NCPD and the Town of Hempstead to determine what happened, and what options we have going forward. I am happy to report that, as a result of the phenomenal work of the NCPD, no one was injured last night. NCPD will be addressing this issue further at the upcoming Merrick Civic Association meeting on August 13. As always, if there are any further concerns, please feel free to contact my office.

When I met Chris on the campaign trail last summer and began working with him to serve our mutual constituents, we bonded over a shared passion for youth travel baseball. Whenever we had an opportunity, we discussed our boys and their potential – and I will always cherish those conversations and memories.

We are all devastated to learn of his sudden passing, and I extend my prayers and condolences to his wife Danielle, his children Joey and Ava, and all of his friends, colleagues and loved ones as they mourn this terrible tragedy.

Cammans Pond update: I have proposed several potential solutions for what seems to be a recurring annual problem; this algae bloom. Due to environmental regulations, the county needs to vet these options before they can be integrated. I am working closely with the Parks and Public Works departments to try to resolve this issue as soon as possible. My goal is to find a long-term sustainable solution and not just a quick fix.

Yesterday, I presented citations to acknowledge the success of the award-winning Freeport Varsity Kickline team. With 3 1st place Hip-Hop finishes and 3 2nd place Pom finishes, this squad has written another chapter in Freeport Kickline’s illustrious history book.

And as little league coach myself, I was so heartened to see these dancers learning discipline and expressing their identities. These youth sports programs are building well-rounded, confident leaders for our future.

On Wednesday, I met an amazing human being: Ron Segev. During the hellish Oct 7 Hamas attack on the Nova music festival, Ron used his quick thinking and selfless instincts to save his brother and 9 other souls.

In front of about 100 listeners, he told his story, helping us all bear witness while exuding grace, mercy, and a surprising optimism. His persistence gives me hope and reaffirms the resilience of the Jewish people and our nation.
