There is absolutely no place in our society for violence. In addition to former President Trump, several others were also injured, including an innocent person who sadly lost his life. Please join me in praying for all those affected by this horrible incident.

My thoughts and prayers are with President Trump. I'm happy to hear he wasn't seriously injured.

It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Nassau County Police Department Chief of Patrol Kevin Canavan, who succumbed to cancer related to his service during 9/11. Chief Canavan dedicated his career to the NCPD, starting in 1985 and rising to the second highest uniformed position. He was among the brave officers involved in the rescue efforts at Ground Zero. Chief Canavan remained active in the department until his passing and was recently honored with the 2024 Theodore Roosevelt Award. Rest in peace, Chief. Our thoughts are with your family, friends, and colleagues.

Two men from Franklin Square were arrested for planting skimming devices on ATMs at Ridgewood Savings Bank in Bellmore and Franklin Square on several occasions during the last month. Although these two men have been apprehended, this scheme is becoming more and more common because these skimming devices are used to illegally obtain your credit card information and make illegal purchases or sell your data. To protect yourself, be aware of what credit card skimmers look like and utilize contactless pay, such as using the tap feature or paying inside an establishment with an attendant. For more information on how to spot a credit card skimming device, visit the following link: https://www.capitalone.com/learn-grow/privacy-security/credit-card-skimmers/

Nassau County Police Officers Craig Wulff, Emil Knight and Nicholas Accardi were honored for their roles in arresting a gunman who fired shots into a crowd in Long Beach on June 13th.

Two Nassau County Detectives were also honored as our "Top Detectives". Detectives Paul Cigna and Michael Neglia were assigned to a case involving a shooting in South Farmingdale. During yesterday's Nassau County Legislature meeting, I had the great honor and extreme privilege to recognize Village of Mineola resident Tony Catalano.

Tony is a 103 year old World War II Veteran. He served under General Patton, as a Sergeant in the famed 3rd Army and helped lead American GIs through some of the fiercest fighting and most brutal terrain and weather conditions in the European theatre of operations. Sergeant Catalano was also part of the group of soldiers that liberated the Dachau concentration camp. In recent years, Sgt. Catalano has been extremely active by visiting schools and teaching students about the experiences he and his fellow veterans have gone through.

Sergeant Catalano, you are truly a member of America’s “Greatest Generation.” Your valorous service and the service of those in America’s armed forces during our deepest crisis saved the world from tyranny and preserved freedom and liberty for generations to come. Our nation owes you a tremendous debt of gratitude for your valorous service. Thank you.

The Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage conducted a ceremony in commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day; the most historic amphibious assault on N**i occupied France on June 6, 1944. The ceremony included the laying of a wreath on a D-Day era landing craft, the tolling of a memorial bell to mark the five landing Normandy beaches, and a memorial service to reflect on the deaths of the 4,400 Allied soldiers killed in action on D-Day.

It was an honor and a privilege to join with World War II Veterans Cliff Boring, William DeGroat, Calvin Blank, William Meunier, and Charles Lauer; Ben Brierley, Head of Policy and State Government Relations, British Consulate General and Damian Laban, France Acting Consul General; Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Presiding Officer Howard Kopel, Legislator Samantha Goetz, Legislator James Kennedy, Legislator Patrick Mullaney, and Legislator Arnold Drucker; and Museum of American Armor Board members Jason Halloren and Gary Lewi at this historic event.

Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, which marked the turning point of World War II when the Allied forces engaged in the largest amphibious invasion in military history on the beaches of Normandy, France. We must reflect on and honor the courageous soldiers who gave their lives in the heroic battle to liberate Western Europe from the horrific oppression that it faced.

Dramatic details of NYPD shootout reveals migrant gunman who shot 2 cops recently crossed into US: sources 06/03/2024

Last night, two NYPD officers were shot by a man in Queens, after they attempted to stop him from going the wrong way down a one-way street on a moped. It was later revealed that the man was an illegal migrant who crossed the border in Texas last year and is suspected of committing multiple robberies. While the migrant crisis continues to spin out of control, now our police officers are in greater jeopardy of being injured or even killed. Once again, this is another example of why the migrant crisis needs to be addressed. We pray for a speedy recovery for these officers

In April, a man with over 48 arrests on his rap sheet, including 15 felonies and 5 violent crimes, was released on without cash bail after being arrested for committing 10 larcenies across Nassau County. According to Albany’s bail reform laws, this man meets the standard for a non-violent offender and can walk free until his trial with no consequences even though he is a proven re-offender. Bail reform need some serious revisions to address the cracks in the foundation of the law that are allowing criminal who are proven to be violent reoffenders to slip through them time and time again. https://patch.com/new-york/massapequa/man-steals-several-nassau-stores-2022-police
