Thank you, John Wilton and the Garden City Chamber of Commerce for inviting me to join my colleagues in government for the ribbon cutting for Tonys tacos on Seventh Street in Inc. Village of Garden City, NY. It is always great to acknowledge our local business owners who invest in our communities, providing jobs and services for us all to enjoy.

Thank you to the Stewart Manor Fire Department for inviting me and my colleagues in government to join in the Department's 25th July 4th Parade and BBQ. Thank you also to the Long Beach Seaside Marching Band for the great music! This is one of the largest parades in Nassau County and features the famous water balloon and water gun festivities. By the end of the parade, I was soaked. All of the kids - even the big kids like me - had a great time celebrating our country. God bless America. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

It was an honor to participate in Tom S.'s Eagle Scout project at Family & Children's Association of Nassau County. Tom is an aspiring Eagle Scout with Franklin Square Troop 93 and undertook to obtain and deliver 1,500 items for low income seniors. Assemblyman Ed Ra, Councilman Thomas Muscarella, and Eagle Scout Tom Montefinise were on hand to help with the delivery. A big thank you also to Tom's mom and dad, his Scout leaders and his fellow scouts who encouraged Tom with this project. Each bag contains 17 items that were donated at Tom's request. He pitched Family & Children's Services (a great not-for-profit here in Nassau County), telling people about its 140 year history and how it helps those in need or in crisis right here. The generosity of the community and Tom's concern for others was evident. Keep up the great work!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nassau County Police Department Chief of Patrol Kevin Canavan, who succumbed to cancer related to his service during 9/11. Chief Canavan dedicated his career to the NCPD, starting in 1985 and rising to the second highest uniformed position. He was among the brave officers involved in the rescue efforts at Ground Zero. Chief Canavan remained active in the department until his passing and was recently honored with the 2024 Theodore Roosevelt Award. Rest in peace, Chief. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.

It was my pleasure to attend the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association’s Member Celebration, Awards & Scholarship Dinner with Legislator Bill Gaylor last night. Our four-legged friends depend on the talented, dedicated, and selfless professionals who work in the field of veterinary sciences to keep them safe and healthy. Congratulations to all the honorees and the two scholarship recipients, Ashley Doxey and Michael Kurpisz, who were recognized at last night’s LIVMA Celebration, Awards & Scholarship Dinner! A special thanks to honorees Bessy & Joe Gatto, founders of Gatto Pups & Friends. Thanks for all you do.

Today we honored Detective Paul Cigna & Detective Michael Neglia of the NCPD 8th Precinct as Top Detectives in Nassau County. On January 13, 2024, Detectives Cigna and Neglia were notified of a shooting that had just occurred at Ellsworth W. Allen Park at 45 Motor Avenue in South Farmingdale. The juvenile victim had been shot in the right leg and was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Detective Neglia responded to the hospital and interviewed the 15-year-old victim. The victim stated that he was at the park to watch a fight between a teenager who attends Farmingdale High School and a teenager who is from Port Washington. During the course of that physical altercation, an unknown individual, who appeared to be an adult, arrived with the group from Port Washington and was wearing a ski mask. That individual did pull out a revolver and did fire a single shot striking the victim in the right leg. The shooter, as well as the rest of the Port Washington group, jumped into a white older model SUV and fled out of the park onto Motor Avenue. The victim was unable to identify the shooter. Thank you, Detectives Cigna and Negila, for all you do to keep our County safe

And then, this morning, another ribbon cutting in Franklin Square, at Vida Coffee Shop at 882 Hempstead Turnpike, right near the Franklin Square Post Office. Once again, it was the local chamber of commerce - in this case the Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce - that organized the ribbon cutting and invited us to celebrate the hard work of owner Fabian and his family. The photos show the quality of the work and, with a parking lot and handicap accessibility, Vida is a great addition to the Franklin Square business community. Wishing them much success and lots of business.

With back to back ribbon cuttings, we can say business is booming in the 8th Legislative District. Thank you to the Garden City Chamber of Commerce President John Wilton for inviting my colleagues in government and me to the ribbon cutting for Pantano's Doz. Bagels (great name!). Owner Mike sells a great product. Wishing him and his family many years of success.

On this day 250 years ago, the United States adopted its first national flag. Our flag has a symbolic meaning that runs deeper than the iconic stars and the stripes; it symbolizes the spirit of unity that brought our fifty great states together under one free nation.

The detailed planning and coordination on an international level that went into the largest amphibious attack in military history will forever mark this day as one of the most prominent and critical turning points in history. This turning point allowed the courageous and heroic soldiers from military branches all over the world to liberate Western Europe from N**i control and put a cease to the atrocities that occurred during World War II. Today, and always, we admire and reflect on the sacrifice to their own lives that the soldiers made during World War II.
