Trinity Lutheran Congregation
Nurturing wholeness - and holiness - in Cedar-Riverside. A Church Without Walls
In 1966 Trinity lost its building to Interstate 94 construction.
Trinity Lutheran Congregation is a community of faith
that has worshiped and actively engaged in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood since 1868. A Reconciling in Christ congregation, Trinity cofounded Augsburg College and Fairview University Hospital and codeveloped an innovative, mixed-income 85-unit urban housing complex. Our current mission is to help break down the walls of racism, sexuality, eth
Solstice blessings.
In the Northern Hemisphere, December 21 is the longest night, the winter solstice. It marks the shortest day of the year, the official start of winter. Tradition says that nature and all her creatures stop and hold their breath to see if the sun will turn back from its wanderings, if the days will lengthen and the earth will once again feel the sun’s warmth. On this darkest day of the year, we come with our honest yearnings seeking the return of light and hope. (Sundays and Seasons)

Can you help? Trinity Lutheran Congregation, along with our friends at Olivet UCC Church and ICSA (Islamic Civic Society of America – Dar Al-Hijrah mosque) are supporting a refugee family from Afghanistan. The father worked closely with American soldiers. They helped us. Can you help support them? I have chosen to donate. I hope you can, too. Any amount will help. All money collected will go to the family for rent, food, and other living expenses. Check out the GoFundMe link to learn more and donate. And pass the word along. Thank you, Pastor Jane

I tried posting this last week but am wondering if it got lost in some Facebook algorithms. Here's another try.

Muslim call to prayer arrives to Minneapolis soundscape MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The chant in Arabic blasted from rooftop loudspeakers, drowning out both the growl of traffic from nearby interstates and the chatter and clinking glasses on the patio of the dive bar that shares a wall with Minneapolis’ oldest Somali mosque.
I was on my way back to the office at Trinity after a lunch meeting and was stopped in my tracks at Riverside and Cedar Avenues by a heavenly sound bouncing off the buildings. It turns out it was the Adhan, the Call to Prayer. I stood and listened and walked away with a smile.
Eid Mubarak to our Muslim Friends!

A word from Bishop Ann Svennungsen
A Statement from Bishop Ann on the police killing of Amir Locke.
"God of mercy, our hearts are breaking over the police killing of Amir Locke. We say his name and give thanks for his life. Stir up your presence in our community; comfort those who need comfort; discomfort those who need to be discomforted; draw us all into your work of justice. Amen
The wounds of our community are wrenched open yet again with the killing of another Black person at the hands of a police officer. We mourn with Amir Locke’s family and his community.
We pray for all reeling from this re-inflicted trauma and the layers of harm that ripple out from this moment. We pray for the activists and community leaders raising questions and seeking change. We pray for our elected leaders called to courageously work for the reformation of our law enforcement and criminal justice system.
We know there is so much to do, we hear God’s call to participate in this work, and we recommit our lives to the justice God seeks."
