Mandala Making -
Mandala Making All in all, Abbey Way-ers were a flexible bunch. Regularly during worship, we engaged in creative activities to bring to life the scripture, noticing and naming the presence of God among us. In the last few years, during the summer months, we made mandalas during our Sunday gathering. I was always a...
Wisdom Given -
Wisdom Given Early on, God gifted Abbey Way with a number of people with seasoned wisdom and grace. Below is a photo of one of those wonderful people who invested their themselves in Abbey Way.
Needing a place to (re)connect with God? Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in Edina is hosting a lovely Taize service next Friday (10/13) evening @ 7 PM in their little chapel. Through music, chant, silence, and scripture, a spacious place for prayer and worship is created. This month they will be incorporating Abbey Way's stock of liturgical colored votives--our gift to them. : ) Do come!
Companions on the Journey -
Companions on the Journey Not only is Saint Joseph, Minnesota, the home of Saint Benedict's Monastery, but also the College of Saint Benedict. In 2002, Lilly Endowment Inc.'s investment helped fund the creation of the Companions on the Journey: Listening for the Voice of Vocation program for the theological exploration of vo...
Lady Pastor -
Lady Pastor I remember a conversation with a woman interested in participating in the life of Abbey Way but was concerned if it would work since her husband didn't think women could be pastors. She wondered out loud if I thought her husband could attend with her. It was an odd sort of exchange, but not one that...
Anointing -
Anointing From the beginning days of Abbey Way, anointing was a normative part of our Sunday worship gathering. Unlike some other church settings where designated persons do the anointing, anyone who could follow instructions to extend a hand toward another with prayer could at Abbey Way. Each one would bless...

An invitation to the hear the story of Abbey Way through photos and words.
"A picture paints a thousand words..." — Abbey Way I confess I was a "Bread" fan in my youth: not bread you eat but the band you listen to with lead singer David Gates. One of my favorite songs they sang was entitled "If a picture paints a thousand words." The music, written as a love song, reverberates in my head these days. I a
Good Growing @ Good Courage -
Good Growing @ Good Courage This past Saturday a few Abbey Way-ers journeyed out to Hutchinson for our last official Vineyard Steward cohort adventure of 2023. With the harvesting of the grapes, comes the end of our official commitment together as a cohort. I have to say, harvesting is much easier and more satisfying (and stic...
It is with sadness we announce that Abbey Way Church’s current membership has voted to officially close on the Feast of Epiphany, January 6, 2024. The last day the church will receive donations will be December 31, 2023. These dates were chosen so we could fulfill our financial commitments through the end of the calendar year. In the meantime, we will do our best to walk these last months out with faithful intention and fiscal responsibility as we always have done. We will not be returning to gathering for Sunday morning worship in any official way in the months ahead. Our hope is to create space in the near future to reflect and review the graced life of our seventeen year journey as a faith community for all those who have remained connected to and supportive of Abbey Way during these days.
We thank you for your love and encouragement these past years and pray that whatever seeds of grace have been planted will continue to grow in you and in turn within the faith communities you name as home.
Here is a prayer from Abbey Way’s concluding meeting...
God our Creator and our end,
You have been with us in our beginnings, we pray now for your presence in our endings. Give us grace to bear bravely the changes we must undergo, the pain we may have to face, to come to our home with you. Give us the courage to welcome the moment awaiting us; give us trust and confidence; and at the last, give us peace. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

He’s gone,’ says Joseph, and, with Pilate’s leave
Eases the nails and lowers him from the Tree,
Wraps him in reverent and tender thoughts
And lays him in the cave called Memory.
That cave is deeply hewn in Joseph’s heart:
All that’s within will always be his own:
In memory’s cave the treasure of his past
Is safe for ever, walled and sealed by stone.
‘He’s safe,’ says Joseph, ‘safe in this cool place
And no one now can take my Lord away.
In years to come I’ll still see his dear face
As clearly as I’ve seen it on this day.’
‘He’s gone!’ cries Joseph at the empty tomb:
But Mary says, ‘He’s left a word for you:
He cannot rest content to be your past,
So he has risen to be your future too.’

Thanks to all the wonderful people who came today to Easter worship at the Pavilion. It was so good to be with you. Happy Easter!
Join Abbey Way at the Theodore Wirth Pavilion on Sunday for a resurrection celebration.
Please park in the Wirth Lake Beach parking lot and use the road up to the Pavilion as the path to reach the site. The two other normal walking pathways are still full of snow and ice and impassable. Remember to leave no valuables in your car. Leave plenty of time for the walk up the hill.
If you are carrying Abbey Way gear to drop off, please use the same narrow road to drive up the hill to the parking lot near the Pavilion. Thanks!
You are invited to celebrate Easter with Abbey Way at the Theodore Wirth Pavilion at 10:30 AM Sunday.

Our Story
In 2006, Abbey Way began. Through the seasons, we have grown and changed, suffered and lost, thrived and flourished. Many committed voices and hands have helped to create and sustain who we are and desire to be in these many years.
From the very start, there has been children who have graced our presence with their eager wonder to be a part of God’s story. As adults, we have learned from their simple hearts how to be present to the “what is” of the Spirit’s work. As a faith community, we have made space for them as part of the fabric of Abbey Way. We love our kids.
There has also been the practice of our faith. Through the intentional spiritual disciplines of prayer, worship and service and repeating patterns of the liturgical calendar holding us, we have been--are being--formed into a Christ centered people. We come to God with openness and humility.
Oh, yes, and the people. There are the good, good people of Abbey Way. Even in our differences--or maybe because of them--we continually desire to learn what it means to enter into the manifest love of Jesus, filling up and then extending out that love beyond our insular lives into the world around us. We fall down sometimes but we do get back up again (with God’s grace).
