Recovery Bike Shop
Recovery Bike Shop is a transportation minded shop with new & used bikes and full repair services. Bikes for people who love the journey AND destination.
Real transportation for real people.
Join us Sunday 10am at The Briar Bar for Coffee (Outside). Turns out there’s a lot of great coffee shops in NE and we’re still working through each one.
Briar Bar has a simple but solid breakfast menu. I will be having the Cutie…or the Kevan Keen…but probably the Cutie. 🤤
And we will have stuff to share. So stop by for a bit and say hello.
A gagillion people showed up for bike lanes yesterday!
Lyndale Ave S is being redeveloped. Hennepin County is considering plans now. Tell them we want a safer street: [email protected]
Coffee (Outside) this week at Dogwood on Tyler and Broadway. Sunday 10am. Join us for a chill start to the day. We will have treats to share.
Hey, Cosmic, we’re heading your way tomorrow at 10am for Coffee (Outside)! Save me a Boss Burrito!
Join us for our weekly get together. 33rd and Central. Right across the street from the Columbia Golf Club. There will be treats. We’ll probably be in the backyard because Cosmic has a backyard.
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am at the Coffee Shop NE on Johnson and 29th (swipe). As always, we recommend the eggiest thing on the menu, the eggel, part egg, part bagel. Enjoyed outside.
And we’ll bring some treats to share, of course.
All are welcome for our casual excuse to start the week off on a bike.
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am at Pilllar Forum. We’re back to NE coffee shops after last week’s hiatus to advocate for the potential bike bridge.
And is about to open their new event space, a major expansion. The new space won’t be ready by Sunday, but we’re ready to celebrate a desperately needed venue in the neighborhood.
This week will be “unsupervised” while some key Reco personnel are out of town, but that’s no excuse to interrupt the continuity, so Coffee (Outside) will proceed.
Coffee (Outside) is our weekly informal get together. There’s usually treats to share. All are welcome. Come check it out.
There’s a lot of enthusiasm for a bike/ped connector over the Mississippi from the NE 18th St bikeway to the N 26th St bikeway because crossing the train trestle is practical, common, and illegal.
The next closest option is Lowry. The bridge is a great ride, but Lowry itself is a nightmare. There are no practical routes through Northeast or Northside from the Lowry Bridge.
We learned at a recent site visit that the new bridge would be the first new Mpls span of the river in 50 years! The work, lead by Mpls Parks, would include large amounts of bank/bluff restoration work after decades of abuse from industry and neglect.
Swipe for the Park Boards info poster and link.
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am at the 18th St train trestle BECAUSE Mpls Parks is leading a public site tour on Saturday morning at 10am (meet at the 26th St Overlook on the North Mpls side —> swipe).
Come to be heard on the concept of a bike and pedestrian connector where the NE 18th St bikeway ends and the 26th St N bikeway begins.
If completed, the 18th St bikeway through NE could finally provide a practical bike transit way from across North Minneapolis into the heart of Northeast and visa versa.
This would make bicycles in NE and North more practical as transportation, replace a few car trips with bike trips, and reduce some of the strain on our more congested roads and infrastructure.
The current 18th St bikeway is a great start but is representative of so much of our bicycle transportation network. The path was created where space was available, not where bike transit was needed. The 18th St bikeway starts in the middle of a neighborhood and ends in an alley. Seriously. Riders generally have to go out of their way to use the protected path.
Finishing this line would add a real transportation option for Northeast and beyond.
Two mornings at the train trestle…
Saturday 10am: park professionals with real information
Sunday 10am: Recovery Bike shop with treats!
Why don’t we stick with the brick and mortar coffee shop theme for a bit. Carma Coffee has a new owner (Nathan) who is EXTREMELY focused on our community. Let’s check them out tomorrow at 10am. (Don’t worry, the breakfast sandwich is safe.)
Coffee (Outside) started (somewhere else) as a non-alcoholic social gathering idea. We picked it up about a year ago and there’s always snacks (sometimes homemade) and good people. You will be welcomed!
I feel obligated to explain the photo (which is telling). We have a couple of regulars that are trying to go low-sugar, so we’re gonna take this weekend off from our regular batch of sweets. This in no way should be seen as discouraging anyone else from baking the homemade delights that we talk about all week (swipe).
Been a while since we put up the ol’ Now Hiring sign, but we’re ready to welcome another person or two on to our team.
We are a Northeast Minneapolis focused, impact-minded, entry-level bicycle shop. If you want to make the world a better place, let’s talk!
We’re a small crew that does everything: wrenching, sales, events, mopping, whatever.
Experience a plus. Passion a must.
Email resumes to [email protected]. (Bonus points if you know what a cutter is.)
Well it looks like we have a real winter on our hands after all. But don’t worry, we’re still Coffee (Outside)ing Sunday at 10am.
This week we’ll post up on the Mojo patio because it’s semi-sheltered, has an indoor component on this cold morning, and because Mojo’s breakfast burritos are legit.
See you there!
This random guy came into the shop the other day to ask us about the free bus service test pilot on Lowry. We talked mass transit, car transit, bike transit, and everything in between. Turns out he was from .
Then he took our portrait, promised to keep working for better transportation options, and left.
Thanks for doing what you do, Nas.
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am at yet another Mississippi River bridge. Bet you didn’t think we could carry this on for so long! This is the Soo Line Bridge just south of the 42nd St Camden Bridge.
We’ll have some treats as usual. See you there!
(Photo is from last winter when we had real snow.)
Coffee (Outside) will be “unsupervised” this Sunday at 10am. We will be taking a much needed break from the bike shop for a few days, but you are certainly encouraged to gather and enjoy Northeast’s river bridges in our absence. This one (as seen last summer) connects Boom Island (which is no longer an island) with Nicollet Island (which is still an island).
Happy New Year, everyone!
Coffee (Outside) Christmas Eve edition! This is another excuse to wear your best/worst Christmas sweater and enjoy some holiday treats with Northeast’s best people.
Join us on the Merriam St Bridge tomorrow (Sunday) at 10am. This is the tiny bridge that connects Nicollet Island to Main St. If you can find the Nicollet Island Inn, you can find Northeast’s fanciest bridge (which, incidentally, is the last surviving section of the old Broadway Bridge). Merriam Christmas, everyone!
It’s been just about a year since we started meeting for coffee outside. And this defunct rail bridge on Nicollet Island is where it all started. Technically it’s still a bridge over the Mississippi River, so it’s this Sunday’s spot. See you at 10am. (Swipe for map.)
We’ll bring treats to share (so you don’t have to), but they tend to pale in comparison to the baked goods others bring each week. All are welcome. The more the merrier.
FYI, Coffee (Outside) is a meetup. The “ride” is whatever you do to get there or get home. It’s just an excuse to start the week off in a cool NE spot. You should come!
(, this is the perfect event for you. I’m just sayin’.)
We had a GREAT day at the Free Bikes 4 Kidz giveaway day yesterday. Hundreds of bikes. Hundreds of kids. Thousands and thousands of smiles!
This is what happens in Minneapolis.
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am at the Stone Arch Bridge. There will be treats!
Coffee Outside is our weekly gathering to show off a bit of NE and start the week off great! No other agenda. You are always welcome.
The Coffee (Outside) bridge tour continues Sunday 10am at the most expensive bridge (per sq ft) in the country, at least when it was completed in 1990. It was also the shortest steel cable suspension bridge in the world.
Bagels this week. Join us on the historic Hennepin Bridge.
Well if we’re gonna do ALL of the bridges, you gotta get creative. The historic Camden Bridge will be host to this week’s Coffee (Outside), tomorrow at 10am.
Mpls’ northern most river bridge, Camden is at the corner of Northeast Mpls. Look for us on the bike path which slides beneath the bridge on the east side.
We’ll have some treats as usual. Join us for a quick meetup and some much needed vitamin D.
Coffee (Outside), y’all! Sunday 10am at the Plymouth Bridge. FYI, the lighthouse is legit, one of the few left on the Mississippi River. It no longer serves the function of guiding ships, but it did so throughout the 1800’s logging boom.
Coffee (Outside) is our way to set the tone for the week. We’re exploring NE one spot at a time. We just finished our first year! Join us.
This is our LAST CHANCE to bury the power lines on Lowry Avenue for a generation. Mpls and Xcel are burying all of the city’s power lines. But because Lowry is technically a Hennepin County street, they’re not planning to do it.
In 30 years, we will still have power poles on our boulevards, power lines above us, and boulevard trees trimmed and split to avoid contact with the power lines.
And this will look super weird because the rest of the city will have little green boxes every couple of blocks and no power lines.
Come to TONIGHT’S meeting and tell Hennepin County Commissioner Irene Fernando that we want these power lines buried along with the rest of Mpls’ lines.
There will be snacks!
After we met our October build goals, we took a day off to build bikes to donate to the Little Earth community. Dropped them off this morning.
Established in 1973, Little Earth is a nearly 10 acre, 200+ unit Housing and Urban Development (HUD) subsidized housing complex located in the urban industrial core of Minneapolis. It remains the only indigenous preference project-based Section 8 rental assistance community in the United States.
Check them out:
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am on the Central Ave Bridge (called the 3rd Ave Bridge by some others) which is FINALLY open again and sports two glorious bike lanes in and out of downtown.
We do this every Sunday morning. New location posted here every Saturday. All are welcome!
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am at MN Nice Cream and Būch. Come and enjoy some snacks on us. Bring your own coffee if that’s your thing. All are welcome.
Also, we ship bikes to West Africa by the truckload. Just a fun fact.
Coffee (Outside) yesterday. Here we are working to store up enough vitamin D for the next six months.
Have a great week, y’all!
A grand time was had by all at yesterday’s group ride to Sochacki. Thanks to the crew for all of your work getting us to this point. Let’s do it again soon!
See you at Coffee (Outside) this morning (see previous post).
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am. Exploring Northeast one cool spot at a time. This time at the train trestle By Broken Clock Brewing and 16th. Free treats!
Join us for a quick gathering every Sunday. All are welcome!
Come join us at Recovery on Saturday the 21st for a group ride in conjunction with local bike crew !
2:00 meet up in the back alley of Recovery, roll out at 2:30. The ride will head towards north Theodore Wirth and over to the Sochacki jump park. Once we’re all wiped we’ll head to Utipils brewing around sunset.
Official mileage will be posted once the route is finalized, but this is a no drop, casual pace ride. There will be free raffle prizes from Jetboil and Outershell! A waiver will be required for those participating. Bring helmets, lights, and money for the bar and food truck.
Coffee (Outside) Sunday 10am at Boom Island. Start the week on a bike. Start your Sunday with some free snacks.
