We are doing a NYNY challenge this year but instead of doing it in teams with fat loss being the only goal, we are going to individualize this year!

For the next 3 months, the challenge will be about personal goal setting. Want to lose 10 pounds? Drop some body fat percentage? Hit a new personal record on your Deadlift? Work on your pull ups? Or compete in your own mini Powerlifting or TSC meet? Let's do it!

SCAPULAR RETRACTION (pulling back the shoulder blades) is vitally important to all aspects of strength training! This is one of the most common corrections I have to make with clients. When performing any pulling movement if you are not properly retracting the scapula you are performing a glorified arm exercise as well as causing detriment to the muscles and ligaments in the shoulder girdle.

Give this exercise. The Y-T-L iso hold, a shot to test you’re scapular retraction as well as improve it!
- Lying face down on the ground put your arms above your head to make a Y with your thumbs pointing straight up in the air
- try to lift your hands off the ground, work to keep your elbows straight and to wrinkle your shirt in the middle of your back (by retracting your scapulas) and hold that position for 10sec
- do the same thing with your arms to side in a T and palms facing the ground
- and the same with your arms down by your side and your palms facing up in the air.

If you can get a friend to watch help tell you if your wrinkling your shirt together in the middle and pulling your shoulder blades together it can help greatly! As well as even putting a finger in between your shoulder blades so you can feel them pulling together.

The rear foot elevated split squat is one of my favorite single leg squat pattern exercises! It is great for helping work through imbalanced weaknesses in your legs and improves normal squatting!
