May is Older Americans Month, celebrating the wisdom, contributions, and resilience of our seniors. Let's honor their experiences, advocate for their needs, and create inclusive communities where they can thrive. Together, let's build a future that cherishes and respects our elders.
May is Mental Health Month, a time to raise awareness, break stigma, and prioritize our wellbeing. Let's start conversations, offer support, and prioritize self-care. Your mental health matters every month, but let's give it an extra spotlight this May.
Here are five things you can do to improve your mental health:
1) Practice mindfulness and relaxation techniques such as meditation or deep breathing exercises.
2) Engage in regular physical activity, even if it's just a short walk or stretching session.
3) Prioritize healthy sleep habits, aiming for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.
4) Cultivate a supportive social network by connecting with friends, family, or support groups.
5) Seek professional help if needed, whether through therapy, counseling, or psychiatric support. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Weird running fact Wednesday: Runners used to drink champagne as an energy drink. It may seem crazy and dangerous to runners today, but back in Victorian times it was thought that alcohol was a performance enhancer. It is thought that this tradition dates all the way back to Ancient Greece and China. Incredibly, they would also take drugs such as he**in and co***ne to enhance their performance, something that is unthinkable today. We now know that alcohol is a diuretic and can cause dehydration, meaning it is the complete opposite of what you'd want while running an endurance race, especially in hot weather.
