Sexual Violence Center
SVC provides free support services to individuals who have experienced sexual violence.
SVC serves victim/survivors of sexual violence and has worked to prevent sexual violence for more than 30 years.
Join us at the Sexual Violence Center as a volunteer advocate - particularly in the area of medical advocacy and hospital response. Our 40-hour advocacy training is packed with must-have skills like crisis management, communication, and counseling. With this training under your belt, you'll be all set to be a real force for good in survivors' lives, helping them find their way to healing.
Why volunteer as a medical advocate?
- Gain in-depth knowledge of forensic exams and options for survivors.
- Develop crisis management, communication, and counseling skills.
- Tour a hospital and meet with Forensic Nurse Examiners.
- Be a beacon of hope for survivors as they journey towards healing.
What do volunteers do?
Our volunteers provide direct support to individuals who have experienced sexual violence by answering our 24-hour crisis line and providing hospital accompaniment during forensic exams. Other opportunities include: facilitating support groups and participation in outreach and education events.
It's a great day to fight r**e culture!

Survivors of sexual violence face an increased risk of mental health struggles, including being 10 times more likely to attempt su***de. This statistic underscores the importance of believing and supporting survivors. When we validate their experiences and provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space, we are actively lessening the impact of trauma and contributing to su***de prevention.
This World Su***de Prevention Day let's commit to being there for survivors. Believe them. Listen to them. Support them. Your empathy and understanding can make all the difference.

It's time for another advocate spotlight! Meet Lucia (she/her), our Volunteer Services Coordinator.
Lucia's six-word bio is: Outdoors-loving, adventure-seeking, coffee-drinking friend and person.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that no two days ever look the same for me. I like how my time is balanced between direct services—peer counseling, support groups, presentations, medical/legal advocacy—and the volunteer program/outreach events. It is so special to be a coordinator and connector of our community to this work. Our volunteers are incredible, and it is so, so fulfilling to learn and grow alongside them. I get to work with so many amazing people each day.
What do you wish people knew about this work?
I wish people got to see the healing and connecting side of our work like we do. Our work is preventative and largely reactive, which can be heavy, but our work also has beautiful outcomes, can give time and space for profound healing, and can create a community of support in the lives of the victims/survivors we serve.
What is your favorite thing to do in the Twin Cities?
EAT!! I love love love trying new restaurants, cafes, food trucks... you name it.

🌟 Advocate Spotlight! 🌟
Meet Claire Flom-Staab (she/they) our Outreach Advocate!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love that I get to both talk with victim/survivors as they're processing through their traumas and all that comes with it AND do prevention education through our presentations. I appreciate the balance of getting to walk alongside victim/survivors through their healing process, while also being part of the larger movement to end sexual violence through education on consent, healthy relationships, and bystander intervention.
What do you wish people knew about this work?
I wish people knew about all of the resources that are available to them! Oftentimes a big barrier to people getting services is the lack of knowledge that these services exist! If you want to know more about services, google your state's coalition against sexual and domestic violence, search your county, and you will see a list of organizations that offer services, almost all of which are free and confidential!
What is your favorite thing to do in the Twin Cities?
My favorite things to do in the Twin Cities are walk near our many bodies of water, take woodworking classes, and eat a home cooked meal with my family, who I'm lucky to say all live in the Cities!
Empower the next generation with REAL TALK!
Our youth training and education program equips young people with essential knowledge and skills for healthy relationships and safer communities. Topics include SVC(C) 101, responding to disclosures, healthy relationships, bystander intervention strategies, and digital safety.
