MN Trauma Project was developed to decrease the barriers to trauma informed care in the state of Minnesota.

The initial focus will be on coordinating workshops for therapists, counselors, and other providers in Minnesota and surrounding states who are working with survivors of trauma, recognizing that working with trauma requires specialized training. Our goal is to bring in leading experts to provide practical workshops on topics including:

"It comes back to generational trauma, and it's been based on the dehumanization of Black people through white supremacy. We've minimized our feelings, but that's no longer a successful tactic," said Bria Garner, a Minneapolis-based Marriage and Family Therapist.

"We honor ourselves and our feelings because they matter and they are real and are valid."

Four Minneapolis-based mental health professionals shared these thoughts about how to manage your feelings as the trial gets underway.

Join us for a healing space during the Chauvin trial with Dr. BraVada. Up to 30 BIPOC can attend for free, please email [email protected] for more information. If you'd like to sponsor a BIPOC to attend, please reach out.

Participants will learn the terminology and symptoms associated with provider over-exposure to client/community trauma (such as burn-out, compassion fatigue, secondary stress, and vicarious trauma).

Participants will learn culturally specific, trauma-informed treatment strategies that engage the mind, body, and spirit to generate healing environments for the clients they serve.

Using experiential exercises as well as small and large group discussions, participants will leave this workshop with mission statements that affirm their personal/professional commitments to healing themselves and others.

New Stanford study says Zoom calls trigger our 'fight or flight' survival reflex 03/10/2021

"The brain is particularly attentive to faces, and when we see large ones, we interpret them as being close. Our 'fight or flight' reflex responds," Jeremy Bailenson, director of Stanford University's Virtual Human Interaction Lab, told Business Insider. He added, "From an evolutionary standpoint, if there was a very large human face close by to you, and it was staring right in your eyes, you were likely going to engage in conflict or mating. Neither responses are a good fit for a work meeting.”

New Stanford study says Zoom calls trigger our 'fight or flight' survival reflex Call it Zoom fatigue or something else, Americans are tired of the virtual meeting space.

OPINION | How therapist burnout takes a toll on our mental health system | CBC News 03/07/2021

"Our society needs more helpers, and more help for the helpers. More mental health specialists, clinicians and well-trained, trauma-informed therapists so there are enough to go around, so they are less likely to burn out, so they can access their own therapy services that can enable them to just keep swimming."

OPINION | How therapist burnout takes a toll on our mental health system | CBC News "There’s not enough of me to go around," writes registered psychologist Laura Casey Foss, and that creates a lot of stress for those providing mental health care and on the system itself.
