Sandbox Theatre

Sandbox Theatre is driven by the collaborative spirit to create new and newly-imagined performance artworks, and to foster the development of artists.

A collection of multi-disciplinary artists, Sandbox builds theatre from the ground up; incorporating each individual's perspective to build a unified voice.

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the first MN New Theater Conference!

From thinking about leadership and building community, to balancing feathers and exploring masks, to trying out each other’s methods of devising and cross-pollinating - it filled us up and inspired us to play✨ See you at the next one?

Never stop playing! led us in a playful comic book exercise to explore creating new characters through drawing ✍️ Not pictured: when we brought our creatures to life and sent them to try on shoes and go to awkward middle school dances. Also if you’re curious about the lighting- we had the lights in the rehearsal room on a disco preset because…why not? 🪩

This is your call to do something silly today just for the joy of it!

Craving movement and connection? Sandboxer Evelyn Digirolamo is co-leading a workshop with Sarah Zuber called the Lucid Movement Workshop on Saturday June 15 2-4pm! Link in comments ✨

Since the day she auditioned for us in 2012 delivering her monologue in a headstand, Evie has brought their insatiable movement curiosity to our company (pictures for evidence). Including of course forming our aerial wing The Swingset resulting in the shows Little Pilot, Houdini, and Bone Mother.

Here’s a description of her workshop 🌻
Lucid Movement is a new practice exploring how we can “journal” with our bodies. Using an integration of yoga, dance, and physical theater techniques we will let movement be our guide as we explore ideas together and perhaps come away with a moment of inspiration, aha, or shared laughter. This session is focused on joy and the question of what makes us feel delight. All movement experience levels welcome- bring your body and your curiosity

Held at the Center for Performing Arts✨

Our world is better for it. This is your sign to go make the thing today- hum the song, write the poem, plant the garden, imagine the story, dance the dance- wishing you all a flourishing and creative day ✨✨✨

We are excited to announce the recipients of the 2024 Naked Stages Fellowship: Atim Opoka, hal sansone, Sarah M. Greer, and Skye Reddy! This 7-month development program provides time, financial support, and mentoring to early career artists as they develop their unique voices. Shoutout: this is the final night to catch this amazing showcase at Red Eye Theater ✨

Opening tonight at Red Eye!

Black Ensemble Productions Presents:

The Ifẹ̀ Lab
(Curated Rental)
March 28-30, 2024

The inaugural Black Ensemble Production's (formerly The Black Ensemble Players) Ifẹ̀ (Ee-fay) Lab is a 12-week fellowship highlighting three black solo performing artists in the Twin Cities. Each fellow will be encouraged to create two pieces: one 10-minute solo piece to perform live and another 5-minute solo piece which we’ll film. We'll document each artist's process by filming their 5-minute piece along with their creation rituals in a space of their choosing. We will edit down their creation ritual to 5-minutes totaling a 10-minute solo cinematic highlight. The film and live performances will be interwoven into a multimedia, multidisciplinary, Afro-futuristic showcase which will take place at Red Eye Theater as part of their Curated Rentals Program. Excerpts of their solo performances will be shared via social media and The Ifẹ̀ Lab’s website for free.
