Please extend a warm welcome to our newest Physical Therapist Marissa Slattery, DPT! She is currently taking new patients at our North office. Keep reading below for some fun questions to get to know Marissa!
1.Where did you study PT?
University of Montana, graduated in May 2024
2. Why do you love being a PT - what’s your WHY you show up for your patients?
I show up for quality of life, maybe we can’t fix it all but we can get better at something or make adjustments to anything to improve quality of life and I think that’s one of our most impressive strengths
3. What about Alpine PT excites you?
The partnership with our patients, most health professionals don’t get to work in tandem with their patients the way we can, I appreciate the team approach and letting patients play an active role in their healthcare journey
4. What is your favorite type of patient or diagnosis to work with?
Currently, I am really enjoying my postpartum era (not a swifty but it’s pretty catchy) and I really like to help guide that population through a sometimes unclear and new chapter of their lives.
5. What is your superpower? Queen of casual and making people and places cozy and comfortable to be in.
6. What is your favorite sport/activity to do? Why?
Even split on hiking and soccer, either doing it, watching it, being around it. I love it all, I really enjoyed coaching and hope to get back at it one of these days
7. What is your favorite place to be? Wherever my family is, love those goobers and they make anywhere hilarious and fun to be
8. Coffee or tea? Before motherhood - tea all the way.. but desperate times turned me into a coffee drinker!
9. If you had to be on an island what could you not live without?
I get real weird if I don’t have my water bottle with me - so probably my hydroflask and all the snackies
10. What was one of your best vacations?
We did a honeymoon in Norway! It was amazing, Aurland and Lofoten were our favorites. We even snorkeled in the arctic circle and saw some seals - it was bananas.
Have any nagging hand or wrist pain that you want to take care of before summer really kicks off?
Rock-climber hoping to reduce pain while at the crag? 🧗
New into pickleball and developed some tennis elbow (it doesnt just happen in tennis players!)? 🎾
Alpine is there for you. A new service we introduced this year at our North office is hand and wrist therapy provided by our Occupation Therapist Thomas Richter, OTD. Thomas is training to become a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) and has the skills to assess and treat many upper extremity conditions.
Give us a shout if this sounds like you, and we can work together to make you pain free for all those summer activities! ☎️406-541-2606
Bike season in Missoula is here! Did you get on your bike this year with a new ache or pain? Or buy a new bike and want to make sure it fits? If so, you might want to make an appointment for a bike fit. We have three providers who you can book this service with at our Downtown office. Give them a shout today 📞 406-549-0064
Alpine PTs Dennis McCrea & Brace Hayden recently attended an inservice jointly put on by Montana APTA and REAL VirtualReality Systems. They learned and “immersed themselves in the full-body experiences” of a few clinical uses of virtual reality as a therapeutic tool for pain reduction, muscular coordination and cognitive behavioral rehabilitation.
Anyone else excited for what virtual reality might be used for in the future of healthcare? 🤖
Congratulations to Miya Ensley, this year’s Declin Ermer Memorial Aide Award recipient. This is a $250 award given annually to recognize and support one of our valued aides who have helped make this world a better place. The intention of the award is to assist with basic academic expenses (i.e. books or fees) in the pursuit of a degree in the field of healthcare. Each of Declin’s parents would also like to match the award, making the total award value at $750.
More on the Award:
Alpine Physical Therapy honors Declin Ermer, a former Aide who consistently demonstrated kindness, respect, professionalism, enthusiasm, and initiative within the clinic. He participated regularly in Alpine events, always with a smile on his face. Declin exemplified leadership qualities in the community, at Alpine, and at the University of Montana where he was dedicated to the pursuit of an education in Health and Human Performance. Declin’s goal was to one day become a physical therapist. He tragically lost his life during his final year of college at the University of Montana on November 9th, 2022.
