What does a Montana-made bourbon taste like? Turns out, pretty damn good! Last Fall our Mama Tried Wheated Bourbon won Best In Class at Whiskies of the World. I’m told that means it’s the best in the world. Is it? Well, that’s for you to decide. It’s back this Saturday. Come watch some horses with us at the distillery.

Getting by with a little help from our friends. Our ‘love shack’ needed some real love after 10 years of cute couples cozying up on them. Our amazing friends at stepped in with some custom upholstery fabric and Missoula’s Artisan at Large (find him on Facebook) did a wonderful job rebuilding and covering. works with some of the top interior designers in the country, in addition to collaborating with incredible artists. (And they make the checkered flag 🏁 every summer for .of.dirt ) a truly world class shop in our little town.

**MYSTERY ALERT**

A handful of years ago, we at the distillery had contemplated bottling up our house amaro. Since we use a variety of local and Montana ingredients, we liked the name ‘The Alpinist.’ A great designer ( ) made us a sweet label - even adding a little moto guy.

Well, other things took precedence and we ended up shelving The Alpinist, planning to return to it sometime in the future.

All this is background to us getting excited to watch the new season of on We sit down with some popcorn, and two minutes in, what do we see? Wait a minute - back up there - what is that dude wearing?

WTF!?!?

Dude is wearing a hoodie of THE ALPINIST - our exact non-existent amaro label 😳😳😳!!

What does it mean? How does this hoodie exist and how did it end up on ? Is amaro somehow integrated into the crime? Also, why is anyone wearing an amaro hoodie? Has that ever even happened before?

I guess any publicity is good publicity, but next time at least use one of our spirits that exists. Also, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander: we’ll be selling both The Alpinist AND True Detective hoodies at the distillery this winter 🫠

What is Aquavit?

Aquavit is a refreshing Scandinavian spirit primarily flavored with caraway. Our Skadi Aquavit also features dill, star anise, coriander, grains of paradise, licorice root and lemon. Skadi is named after the Norse goddess of winter, bowhunting, skiing, mountains and justice. Sounds like a Montana girl, right? In addition to our traditional Skadi Aquavit, we also make a barrel-aged Skadi. This mellower version, imbued with caramel and vanilla from charred white oak, has been aged for a little under a year in a cask that previously aged our sudden wisdom rye whiskey, giving it a hint of rye spice as well.

How do you drink Aquavit?

Aquavit is traditionally served chilled with a toast of friendship and a hearty ‘Skoal!’ However, aquavit is also great in a cocktail, enlivening everything from bloody mary’s to tiki cocktails. Saturday brings the release of our Montgomery Single Malt whiskey, and once again we’ll be celebrating with pipers, dancers, delicious Scottish food, and streams of whiskey. The festivities start at 6pm, which also happens to be the age (6-years-old) of this year’s single malt release. This is one of our favorite events of the year, and a little piece of Scotland in Missoula 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Hope to see you there!

Presenting 37 Vodka - The spirit of Montana. Just like the player on the field, this spirit is born, raised, and made right here in Montana. From the fields of Fergus county, across the divide to the Missoula Valley, this spirit is a part of this place. And because we look out for our teammates, a portion of the proceeds from #37 Vodka support the University of Montana’s Office of Disability.

Well would you look at that. Who would have thought that the world’s best wheated bourbon would come from Western Montana? Apparently the folks at the Whiskies of the World competition thought so! Our Mama Tried Wheated Bourbon just won Best in Class as the numero uno wheater out there.

Must be the 100% Montana grains, the estate-grown wheat, and the clean mountain air!

This Sunday is the return of Spirits & Spokes - the mother of all Montana-based distillery motorcycle shows. Come drool over some serious industrial design while you beat the heat with a refreshing cocktail. Noon-6pm. Just follow the burnouts on Front Street….

Spirits & Spokes returns! Sunday August 6th we turn the distillery into a dream bike garage and showcase cool bikes that have been hiding in Western Montana.
