Its charter is to protect the public by helping to safeguard life, health, and property, and to promote the public welfare by providing for the licensing and regulation of persons in the practices of engineering and land surveying. BELS Board meeting was today! The Board members work hard to protect the citizens of Alabama and address engineering and land surveying issues brought before the Board.
Sorry for the late post but BELS staff was busy last week. Chief Investigator Bob Herbert and Special Investigator Bill Hamil attended the Alabama Fire College last Thursday and spoke to the Plans Examiner class. We appreciate the work the Plans Examiners do to ensure the safety of our citizens through code compliance. Also, Executive Secretary Bonnie Kelly and Special Investigator Michael Darden attended the ACEC Conference and talked with several licensed Alabama Engineers and Land Surveyors. It was great to see everyone.

Congratulations to the Troy University Geomatics Program. The program was recently named by NCEES as the winner of a $10,000 prize for its efforts engage students and promote licensure.
The NCEES Engineering and Surveying Education Awards recognize programs that have a broad and robust curriculum and best reflect NCEES’ mission to advance licensure in order to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

On June 7, 2024, Governor Ivey re-appointed Mr. John Averrett to the Board for a five-year term. Mr. Averrett is an electrical engineer and currently serves as the Chair of the Board.
