Morehead City Fire Department Station 3 and Deputy Chief Kane Johnson responded as mutual aid to a fire call in the Newport district on Saturday, June 15th. DC Johnson and Firefighter Thomas Pace were able to rescue a dog inside of the residence.

Here is what the Newport NC Fire Department shared about the fire call: Outstanding work today by the Morehead City FD, Newport FD, Mill Creek FD, and Broad Creek FD at a house fire this afternoon. Fortunately, no one was home except the family dog — that was rescued and returned safely to the owner. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Carteret County Fire Marshal, and the homeowners are being assisted by the Salvation Army and Red Cross.

Thank you to all who donated at the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive on May 9th and who voted for the Morehead City Fire Department! This mission was personal to us, as we think of our friend and colleague, Scot Camden, who is going through cancer treatment and has received a blood transfusion.

Today, Kristin Willis with the American Red Cross announced the winner of the votes cast, along with the number of units collected to help those in our community.

It was an extremely close contest, with one team winning by just four votes - was it or Team Red (Morehead City Fire-EMS) or Team Blue (Morehead City Police Department) that was crowned the winner of the inaugural event? Watch our video to find out!

Why are members of Morehead City Fire-EMS donating at the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive on Thursday, May 9th? For us, it is personal - we are donating in honor of our friend and colleague.

“Help save someone’s life with your donation,” said Chief Courtney Wade. “Morehead City Fire-EMS employee Scot Camden has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, and has already received a blood transfusion as part of his treatment process. Thanks to previous blood donors, Scot’s transfusion was successful. Your donation may save the life of a family member, coworker or close friend. Come out and support Team Red. We are in the business of saving lives, and you can help do just that by joining Team Red on May 9th.”

This American Red Cross blood drive will be held at the Morehead City Recreation Center, 1600 Fisher Street, from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Appointments must be made in advance, and each participant can have their donation count for either the Police or the Fire department’s total.

Schedule an appointment to give blood or platelets by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
