We heard that today is NATIONAL DOG DAY so we thought we would take a minute to highlight some of our favorite dog activities with Carteret County 4-H!
The Cαɾƚҽɾҽƚ Cσυɳƚყ 4-H Cαɳιɳҽ CʅυႦ meets monthly and welcomes youth with or without a canine companion. The group is led by 4-H'er, Bethany C. and the meetings are held at Sound Dog Training Center in Newport.
The Sɱαʅʅ αɳԃ Cσɱραɳισɳ Aɳιɱαʅ Pɾҽʂҽɳƚαƚισɳ Cαƚҽɠσɾყ is the perfect place to showcase breeds, training and all things related to your canine companion.
Dσɠ Pɾσʝҽƈƚʂ are selected by youth who want to focus on many activities throughout the year based on dogs. They help youth learn how to be responsible dog owners by teaching them about raising, training, and caring for dogs in addition to dog sports, health and careers related to dogs.
Be on the lookout for more details about our Carteret County 4-H Dog Show, hosted by our Carteret County 4-H Canine Club! More details will be coming soon!
Tune in at 6 and 8pm TODAY and 6am TOMORROW to hear about these you talk about 4-H presentations!

2024 4-H Volunteer Conference of Southern States
October 3-6, 2024
Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia.
Registration will close in early September!
This year’s conference theme, "Spark * Ignite * Thrive," embodies our commitment to empowering 4-H volunteers through inspiring sessions and collaborative activities. The conference offers onsite and virtual participation options to accommodate all volunteers.
For more information, contact the Carteret County 4-H Office at 252-222-6375 or by emailing [email protected].
We are still developing this list. Please send any contacts our way!
**Please read this entire post before commenting.**
We would like to create a list of volunteer/community service opportunities that 4-H families can pull from (specifically ages 5-12). This list would need to be things that will not change throughout the year so we are not looking for events, but more of a constant need.
Remember that we serve youth ages 5-18 and all youth will have a parent or guardian working with them.
If you volunteer with or know of a organization that you think will fit the requirements, please comment below with the following information:

Campers at Fort Benjamin Park-Carteret County Parks & Recreation Dept discussed gardeners, seeds, pollinators and pest on July 11.
We also dissected seeds and made seed mats for the fall. The seeds we used were harvested when we visited the Discovery Gardens in Onslow County.

We had an incredible week of 4-H camp at Eastern 4-H Center and Summer Camp! I am so glad that I am lucky enough to be able to tag along each summer. These youth make my job fun!
Thank you to Farm Bureau of Carteret County! They help make this trip a reality each year. We are grateful for their support!
If you or your business want to help us make this trip possible for more youth, reach out to us at [email protected].
Our last full day at camp was full of activities! We started with rotations in swing, crafts, kickball, archery and more and finished off the night with a dance and cabin superlatives!
Tomorrow we will have breakfast and head home!
Hannah and Riley in Giant Swing
Emily participating in the Camp Talent Show.
Tabitha participating in the Camp Talent Show.
We started bright and early with activities so we could finish our afternoon with Color Wars! It’s warm, but we stayed cool with plenty of water fun. The adventure youth headed out today for their overnight in Pettigrew State Park.
Tonight is the talent show for the others.
Two more sleeps and we are headed home.
Don't Forget - if you plan to participate in the Egg-cellent Egg Contest, you must register no later than THIS Friday!
Read more about it in this article from Onslow County!
