WVU Peer Advocates
The WVU Peer Advocates is a program at WVU that utilizes expertly trained students as a resource for students affected by sexual violence on campus.
In line with WVU's commitment to the It's On Us campaign we have developed a student sexual assault and power-based personal violence first responders program, WVU Peer Advocates. In Fall 2015, the training for this program transformed into a 3-credit academic class. Collaborating with the Center for Service and Learning, Title IX and RDVIC just to name a few, the course offers students a minimum

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT TONIGHT!
Last week of classes, last week of activities!
We'll be at the Mountainlair tabling for Denim Day! Come out to show your support for survivors!
Do you know the history of Denim Day?
The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a r**e conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who r**ed her remove her jeans, implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, what started as a local campaign to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement.
Join RDVIC in a show of commitment to end sexual violence and harmful ideologies by wearing jeans this Wednesday, April 24th.

"Do you know why we have the sunflowers? It's not because Vincent Van Gogh suffered. It's because Vincent Van Gogh had a brother who loved him. Through all the pain, he had a tether, a connection to the world. And that is the focus of the story we need - connection." Hannah Gadsby.

It's officially Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and this year's theme is BUILDING CONNECTED COMMUNITIES.
Building connected communities helps us reduce the likelihood of sexual abuse, assault, and harassment in our communities. Any space where people come together is a community, whether in neighborhoods, workplaces, campuses, organizations, or even online spaces. We are all a part of a community, often many, even when we feel disconnected or apart from them. Connected communities are safer communities!
The WVU Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Prevention Team will be out on campus, hosting events, raising awareness, and offering opportunities for students to get involved in building connected communities and increase campus safety all month.
Watch this space and theirs for more!

2024's theme is BUILDING CONNECTED COMMUNITIES.
"We recognize that how we talk about sexual violence significantly impacts survivors, their families, our communities, and society. We also understand that our voices have power and that when one of us does not feel safe or respected we are all affected. As such, we must strive to create strong, connected communities that take care of one another and make decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of others to end sexual violence."
