It's engagement season! These are things to keep in mind with your future spouse:

1. Draft wills. The chances of the intentions being followed through with after a death are greater if both partners make wills. Without wills, the probability of the unmarried surviving partner having no rights is more likely.

2. Think about owning property together. This is a way to guarantee that property will pass to the other joint owner at the time of the other's death due to the right of survivorship.

3. Make a durable power of attorney. This will permit the partner to sign papers and checks and take care of other financial issues on his/her behalf should one become incapacitated.

4. Make a health care proxy. Also known as a medical power of attorney, this permits the partner to talk on your behalf to make medical decisions, should you become injured.

5. Have a living will. This lets your wishes regarding artificial feeding and other measures to prolong your life be known

💬 Tell us how you came to work for Baldwin & Associates, LLC.
I have always been interested in sharing information with others. It began in grade school where I loved going to the school and public library. My Grandmama Bennett would take me to her favorite library, and I thought it was just the best. It was where curiosity grew. I went on to earn my BA in English from the College of Charleston and my MSLIS from Syracuse University. My professional background is in administrative work, education, libraries, and archives. I find great joy in the minutiae while interpreting and translating information to others in an understandable and meaningful way. I am delighted to be able to continue to do that here at Baldwin & Associates, LLC.

💬 What dog breed are you and why?
I aspire to be like a Goldy! They are kind, loyal, gentle, silly, smart, and have big hearts!

💬 What’s your favorite memory with Baldwin & Associates?
Thus far I have really enjoyed familiarizing myself with all the intricacies of tax returns and getting to know and laugh with my new colleagues (pups and humans!).

💬 What's a fun fact you can share with us?
I love to bake and have just started taking up gardening!

📝 September 15: Third quarter 2023 estimated tax payment due.

A tip for college athletes: Student-athletes who receive Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) income should receive a 1099 from each business where they earn income. Even if you do not receive a 1099, you should report all income you earned on your return 🙌
