We are thrilled to welcome José to family as our new Lab Technician! Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, he brings a wealth of passion for winemaking that will elevate our juice to new heights. When he’s not crafting our top-notch wines, you can find José lost in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic worlds or spending time with his adorable cats, Luna and Kora. Plus, he’s a black belt in taekwondo! We can’t wait for you all to meet him—let’s raise a glass to new beginnings... Cheers to José!

Exciting news from Broken Rock Vineyard!

Veraison has arrived! We’re thrilled to see the first hints of color change in Cabernet Sauvignon clusters, signaling the beginning of the ripening process. This crucial stage kicks off the second half of the growing season and sets the timer for the oncoming harvest. As sugars increase and acidity decreases, the grapes are preparing for the fall pick. Fingers crossed for an amazing 2024 vintage!

What pairs better than wine and art? We are thrilled to share the coolest art from the coolest artist, Ben Joyce! Every day we have the privilege of sharing space with these inspiring, unique pieces that adorn our winery office walls. See for yourself!

Shortly before her passing, she spoke with The Wine Foundry's team to let them know about her dream wine, and she passed away shortly after we had the chance to speak with her. We made a barrel of white blend in her memory and according to her wishes, and we offer that wine, and a few others we think she would have loved, under the Makala label. A portion of the proceeds from sale of the Makala wines goes to support For Pete Sake's Cancer Respite Foundation, in honor of Makala.

We’re whispering “nite nite” to the 2021 Pinot Noirs, for it's time for them to barrel down and rest after a a very busy fermentation stage.

"Barreling down" occurs once fermentation is complete and the desired tannin profile is achieved through extended maceration. Our skilled production team gently presses the nascent wine, separating must from the skins and seeds, and then our team transfers the must into beautiful French Oak barrels for aging.

The Celtic practice of creating jack-o’-lanterns dates back centuries and humans have crafted wines for thousands of years. Lengthy traditions. With a tip of the cap to the past, the team celebrated last week’s arrival of the final grapes of the 2021 harvest by splicing, dicing and slicing pumpkins into spooky designs.

Meet Trino, The Wine Foundry's fabulous Cellar Master.

Trino started his wine journey in 2002 and immediately became enthralled with winemaking. After joining The Wine Foundry in 2016, Trino quickly rose to the position of Cellar Master, leading our excellent wine production crew. We love being greeted every day with Trino's warm and welcoming smile, as he runs production like a well-oiled machine.
