We are delighted to announce the upcoming release of our highly anticipated 2022 Estate Cabernet Franc, grown in the Pasture district of our prized Hirondelle Vineyard in the Stags Leap District. Veraison has begun, kickstarting the countdown to harvest!

This pivotal phase in a vine’s life cycle is marked by the onset of ripening, when the grapes begin to soften and change color.

In just a few weeks, harvest will officially commence with our first pick of the season – Sauvignon Blanc. We can't wait to see what the 2024 harvest brings!

We are excited to share that our 2021 Yettalil has earned 97 Points and Best in Show award at the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards, the world’s largest wine competition.

This year, over 18,000 wines were blind-tasted by expert wine judges, and of those just 50 wines were awarded the competition’s top accolade – Best in Show. We are incredibly honored to be the only U.S. winery to receive a Best in Show award.

A beacon of our winemaking ethos, Yettalil is the fullest expression of our Stags Leap District Estate. A blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

“….everyone who tasted this wine was very excited about the joy of its sensual profile as well as its aging potential. On the palate, the wine is ample and mouthfilling, packed with pure, fresh, floral fruits - yet suggesting a little exotic spice, too. The soft yet ample tannins are evident, both lending the wine seriousness and food-friendliness yet also ensuring that it will endure well in time.” -2024 Decanter World Wine Awards, 97 points

CAMP CLOS DU VAL | PART 2

While our focus was on immersive educational activities, we of course made time for some fun with several team building activities!

In the evening, we gathered for dinner and uncorked two rare library wines from our cellar, the 1974 and 1984 Cabernet Sauvignon.

As the night continued, we told stories around the fire, roasted marshmallows, and sang songs together before sleeping beneath the stars amidst the rows of our Hirondelle Vineyard.

The following morning began with a serene yoga session at the Hirondelle House, followed by barrel painting and a spirited scavenger hunt across the estate.

We walked away from Camp Clos du Val with a renewed passion for our land and winemaking philosophy, moving forward with a strong shared vision.

CAMP CLOS DU VAL | PART 1

In April, we took two days to pause as a team and reflect on our company’s values and vision for the future with our first Camp Clos du Val. We kicked off day one with a drum circle before embarking on a full estate immersion of our Hirondelle Vineyard in Stags Leap District. We suckered vines with our viticulturist Ryan, jumped into a soil pit with viticulture consultant Dr. Kris Lowe, and learned about the unique characteristics of each varietal planted on our estate from our winemaker Carmel.

We also dug deep into our Bordeaux roots as Carmel and our founding winemaker, Bernard, led us through an inspirational wine tasting, showcasing Bordeaux blends that have influenced their winemaking style over the years.

Stay tuned - more details to come ⛺️✨

The 2024 growing season is off to a beautiful start 🌱

Bud break began in late March, with the first signs of growth appearing in our Petit Verdot block of our Hirondelle Vineyard in Stags Leap District. Below-average temperatures and plentiful rain have persisted throughout winter and spring, setting our vines up for success with abundant moisture in our soils. We are incredibly excited about the potential for this upcoming harvest!

New 2023 Rosé of Cabernet Franc ✨

“Hand-crafted from 100% Cabernet Franc, we allow the grape skins to soak for about 4 hours to achieve its beautiful salmon pink color before pressing the juice and fermenting it cold to retain its fresh aromatics and vibrant flavors.” -Winemaker Carmel Greenberg

Bursting with fresh notes of strawberry, nectarine, and red apple, our 2023 Rosé of Cabernet Franc is vibrant, crisp, and delightfully refreshing. This Bordeaux varietal is unique for crafting Rosé as it imparts distinct floral qualities and an enticingly lush texture.

In an ongoing effort to pursue sustainability from vineyard to bottle, we have decided to remove the capsule. This decision significantly decreases the environmental impact of each bottle, marking another stride towards a more sustainable future.

This wine is here for a good time – not a long time. Stock up on our limited-release Rosé while you can at the link in our bio.

As we welcome spring in the Stags Leap District, we are reminded that agriculture is at the heart of everything we do. Incorporating livestock and beneficial cover crops creates an ideal environment for our vines, allowing us to optimize fruit potential.

Sheep are an integral part of our regenerative farming practices, grazing on and fertilizing our land while eliminating the need for chemical and machine emissions. Guided by a few hardworking (and very friendly) sheepdogs, these wooly critters help to improve soil health and maintain a balanced ecosystem.

We also plant rows of mustard bloom as a cover crop to prevent erosion, increase moisture retention, and supply valuable nutrients to our budding vines.

As we welcome the new year, we look forward with excitement and anticipation for the 2024 growing season. Our commitment to quality remains uncompromising with a strong focus on agriculture and biodiversity.

“Over fifty years ago my grandparents had a vision for an unassuming pasture, in what would eventually become the Napa Valley that we know today. Every year we have an opportunity to manifest that vision. Agriculture is a partnership rather than a profession — our product is more grown than made, and the seasons lend a slow and deliberate pace to our work.

What’s remarkable about Clos du Val is the intentionality with which it was established. Every choice was made in support of our house style — the elegant, balanced, fresh, and vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon we are now renowned for. It’s my great joy and humble privilege to continue drawing that trajectory out into the future, and I’m excited to have you with us for the journey.” – Olav Goelet, Third-Generation Owner
