Let's talk about wine glasses today! π·
There are so many different shapes and sizes of beautiful wine glasses, but did you know that wines are meant for specific glasses? Here's a quick summary of the basics to help you get started.
Generally, white wine is best served in smaller glasses with a narrow bowl to preserve the delicate aromas. This helps to keep the wine cool and enhances its fresh, fruity notes.
On the other hand, red wine benefits from larger glasses with a broader bowl. This design allows its complex flavors and aromas to unfold and permits better aeration, which softens the tannins and enhances the overall taste.
Choosing the right glass can elevate your wine experience. Follow us for more tips on how to enjoy wine at its best!

Letting Your Wine Breathe: A Quick Guide.
Wondering when you should let your wine breathe before drinking?
Age Matters! Younger wines (3 years old) don't need much, if any, time to breathe. Enjoy them straight from the bottle! Aged wines (10+ years old), however, will benefit greatly from about an hour of air time. Letting them breathe will enhance their complex flavors.
How to Let Wine Breathe:
Pour into a Decanter: This is the most effective way to expose the wine to air.
Swirl in the Glass: A quick and easy method, perfect for younger wines.
Remember, how long and how you let a wine breathe can make a big difference in your tasting experience. Cheers to perfecting your wine moments!
At OβBrien Estate, our winery dog Heidi is an essential part of the team. She loves to welcome guests with her happy face and sweet demeanor. πΆ Heidiβs warm greetings and friendly nature add an extra touch of joy to your visit. Whether youβre here for a tasting or a stroll through the vineyards, Heidi is always ready to make your experience even more special. πΏπCome say hi to Heidi and enjoy the unique charm she brings to our winery! πΎπ·

Tannins: you may have heard this little word thrown around when drinking wine with friends or at a tasting. If you've ever wondered what they are and what their purpose is in wine tasting, we are here to debunk them for you.
Tannins can stem from four primary sources:
π Grape skins
π± Pips (seeds)
π Stems
πͺ΅ The wood barrels used during aging
But what do they do? Tannins provide texture and mouthfeel to wine, as well as a sense of weight and structure. Theyβre what give red wines their complexity and longevity. So,next time youβre savoring a glass, pay attention to that unique texture and thank the tannins!
Have more questions about tannins? Let's keep the conversation going in the comments, drop your questions on the subject or any wine related inquiry.
We have two great cats, Hobbes and Motor, who love to socialize with our guests and occasionally steal their cheese. Motor got his name from his loud purring!

Elevate your wine tasting experience with these essential guidelines:
1) Appearance: The journey begins with the eyes. Notice the color, clarity, and depth, as they offer the first hints of the wine's flavor profile.
2) Bouquet: Engage your senses as you delve into the wine's aroma. Allow the bouquet to unveil layers of complexity and intrigue, teasing the palate with anticipation.
3) Taste: The moment of truth arrives as the wine meets your lips. Explore the nuances of flavor, from the initial burst to the evolving palate sensations.
4) Aftertaste: The lingering finish holds the final chapter of the wine's story. Pay attention to the aftertaste, as it reveals the wine's true character and leaves a lasting impression.
Embrace each step of the journey to truly savor the essence of the wine.

Barb and I came to Napa Valley on our third date, and Barb said βI dream of owning land in Napa Valley one day.β I was smitten so I put that on my to-do list. 15 years later, we purchased the 40-acre Costello vineyard and renamed it OβBrien Estate. Bill Hanna, great-grandson of John Muir, owns the adjacent vineyard. Billβs father John grew some of the grapes that went into the historic 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that won the 1976 Judgement of Paris, putting Napa Valley on the world wine map. Bill was our first vineyard manager. Our first winemaker was another neighbor, Dave Cofran, who was one of the founders of Silver Oak and made their early Cabernets with Justin Meyer. We started with a great vineyard, a great vineyard manager, and a great winemaker. Then David Yorgensen joined us in 2004 to create the superb consistent style that delighted Robert Parker and keeps our members coming back year after year. Next year is the 25th anniversary of the OβBrien Estate!
