Sun Exposure and Melanoma
For years, sun exposure has been largely blamed for the increase in melanoma cases, leading to widespread use of sunscreen and UV-blocking apparel, which I call SUN COSMETICS
Recent research challenges this narrative, suggesting that the relationship between sun exposure and melanoma is not as straightforward as once thought.
Studies indicate that lower levels of vitamin D, due to inadequate sun exposure and other lifestyle factors, are found in individuals with melanoma.
This points to a potential protective role of sunlight when experienced in correct doses and wavelengths. The body synthesizes vitamin D through sun exposure, which plays a crucial part in maintaining cellular health and may reduce cancer risk. While excessive sun exposure can lead to skin damage, especially if missing early morning and late afternoon/evening sun, intelligent exposure—balancing time in the sun with protective measures—might actually be beneficial. And by protective measures I do not mean sunglasses or sunscreen.
This perspective calls for a thorough reevaluation of how we perceive sun exposure, emphasizing not just its potential health benefits but also urging us to question the narrative driven by billion-dollar corporations that profit from fear.
Often, these entities focus solely on the risks of sun exposure because they have vested interests in selling products like sunscreen, UV-blocking apparel, and other so-called protective measures. By amplifying the dangers associated with sunlight, they create a market for endless consumables designed to 'protect' us, often neglecting to highlight the natural, health-promoting aspects of sensible sun exposure that do not require such interventions. It's crucial to be mindful of how commercial interests can skew public perception and recognize the broader context in which sun exposure can serve our health when approached wisely. This reassessment encourages an informed balance that acknowledges both the benefits and risks, unclouded by the influence of corporate agendas pushing profit-driven products.
Mainstream Medicine's Sacred Cow
The idea that sun exposure directly causes melanoma has long been regarded as an untouchable truth in mainstream medicine. However, emerging research and In-The-Know Light Practitioners, such as myself, are challenging this bogus belief.
The new data suggests that the equation is not as simple as sunlight equals skin cancer. Because it doesn't and never did.

Instead, it seems that the lack of vitamin D, which is naturally synthesized through sun exposure, in particular UVB sunlight, might play a more critical role.
Studies have shown that individuals with melanoma often have significantly lower vitamin D levels. This revelation calls into question the widespread avoidance of sunlight encouraged by conventional medical advice. While it's crucial to protect the skin from overexposure and burning, a complete shunning of sunlight IS detrimental. But eventually, in the right environment, one can spend all day in the sun without burning, which is basically what I do in New Albany, Ohio from April to about October.
The focus should shift towards balanced sun exposure, which allows the beneficial production of vitamin D while minimizing potential risks. This nuanced understanding pushes us to reconsider blanket recommendations against sun exposure in the fight against melanoma; especially when coming from billion dollar corporations who have something to sell you.
Vitamin D Levels and Melanoma Risk
Recent studies are painting a different picture of the relationship between vitamin D levels and melanoma risk. Contrary to the long-held belief that sun exposure increases melanoma risk, evidence AGAIN suggests that individuals with lower vitamin D levels are more likely to develop this form of skin cancer AND in areas not exposed to the Sun.
This finding underscores the importance of adequate sun exposure to RAISE & eventually maintain healthy vitamin D levels.
Vitamin D plays a critical role in cell growth regulation and immune system function, both of which are vital in cancer prevention. The literature reveals that vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in melanoma patients, and those with higher vitamin D levels often present with less aggressive cancer forms.
Levels above 60, which everybody should shoot for, cancer is basically non-exisistent.
Many people do not know that for cancer to occur one needs 2 things to happen 1. Loss of apoptosis (cellular su***de to take out the bad cells) and 2. Slow electron chain transport (ECT moves electrons through the transport system in the mitochondria to reduce to oxygen)
So getting & maintaining sufficient vitamin D levels would mitigate melanoma risk and improve outcomes the higher you can get it. A D level of 40 is not jsut 2x as good as a level of 20, but magnitudes better; however 40 is still considered low.
Therefore, a balanced approach to sun exposure, ensuring adequate vitamin D synthesis while avoiding skin damage, may be an effective strategy in reducing melanoma risk.
And always remember these two factors about sun exposure: 1. The darker you are the more sun you need. 2. The older you are the more sun you need.
