Lots of little bad things take people to a hard and painful place, and lots of little good things take them to a better one. I find this really hopeful, since it’s the little things that we have the most influence over. You can’t do anything about the past, but you do have the power to take in the good during the next few moments
Why does therapy work?
One theory is that therapy is a part of learning. As you begin to learn and utilize different areas of the brain 🧠you create new neural pathways⚡️and connections🔌, leading to a more balanced brain. Therapy 🗣is kind of like taking your brain to the gym once a week. The more you push it, the stronger it gets🏋🏻♀️.
Different therapies are like different exercises. Every client needs a specific type of trainer (therapist), so it’s important to find the right fit for you. Client’s typically show symptom improvement after their first session and according to Howard et al. (1986) 50% of therapy clients can be expected to exhibit clinically significant improvement in symptoms by 6-8 sessions, 75% by 26 sessions, and 85% by 52 sessions. It’s a gradual process but a solid investment into overall mental health.
The COVID pandemic has impacted all of us in many different ways emotionally, physically and mentally. As a psychologist I am well aware of the impact it has had on all our communities. I wanted to offer up my support and services in any way that I can. I’m currently taking new clients for a reduced fee given the current crisis and the important need for mental health services at this time. Feel free to PM or email me at [email protected] for any questions or referrals. Stay safe.
