Turban Day is an annual event hosted in honor of raising awareness about the Sikh Turban. Our 2024 event is on May 11th in Times Square, NYC. DM to learn more!
Turban Day 2024
The purpose of the Turban Day campaign is to bring awareness among all Americans and other World citizens about Turban and its values in Sikh faith to help correct the misperceptions about Turban through which we share the values of love, faith, equality and social justice.
Every year, Turban Day brings together hundreds of volunteers from the Sikh community to tie colorful turbans on New Yorkers, tourists from across the world, and Americans from across the country visiting Times Square. While tying the turbans, we also talk about the Sikh heritage, identity and make those getting the turbans tied aware of the culture.
The Turban Day event has been aimed at spreading awareness among Americans and other nationalities about the Sikh religion and its articles of faith, especially the turban, which has often been misconceived and misidentified.

Turban Day #2023
Turban is the symbol of Honor and Self Respect which represents Courage, Spirituality and Piety.
This Year on Turban Day on May 06th we also have cultural and musical performances by young kids showing their talent.
Amrit Singh performed his talent on Tabla, who started his Tabla journey in a local Sikh temple at Lawrenceville, New Jersey, at the tender age of 6.
Amrit is a rising young Tabla player, and has been performing solos and accompanying instrumental and vocal artists such
as renowned classical artist Ms. Kankana Banerjee from Mumbai.
Currently, he is under the guidance of Tabla maestro Ustad Shabbir Nisar ji, son of Tabla Nawaaz Ustad Shaik Dawood
Khan of Hyderabad, India.
The Turban Day Team would like to thank Amrit and Wish him All the Best in his journey.
Turban Day 2023 @ Times Square, NY
Besides tying more than 2000 colorful turbans on everyone irrespective of their background, skin color, religion and status, there were multiple artists from the Sikh community showcasing their culture and heritage.
Young musicians from the Sikh Symphony, California performed 31 ragas in 13 different taals (beats) using multiple Indian classical string instruments such as Sitar, Rabab, Taus, Dilruba and Tabla.
This team is led by Leena Singh (on Rabab), with a degree in Comp Sc. Engr. Her passion towards music and Gurmat Sangeet compelled her to form Sikh Heritage Symphony to bring awareness of Gurmat Sangeet and Tanti Saaz worldwide. She has been teaching Gurmat Sangeet for over a decade. Accompanying her on Turban Day stage are young kids (age 13- 22) from Sikh Symphony; Kirpa Kaur on Sitar, Amrit Kaur on Taus, Noor Bedi on Rabab, Hasleen Kaur on Dilruba, Jaspreet Singh on Rabab, Keerat Kaur on Rabab, Amrit Singh on Tabla, Parmeet Singh on Tabla.
