Happy 4th of July from the Greenhouse Cafe family!
Today, we commemorate the day of our nation's independence, and are reminded of the enduring symbol of our flag. The stars and stripes proudly waving in the breeze represent the unity, resilience, and unwavering spirit of the American people.
Our flag stands as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the countless sacrifices made by those who came before us to secure our freedom. It symbolizes the ideals of liberty, justice, and equality that we hold dear, and serves as a constant reminder of the journey our nation has taken, the progress we have made, and the work that still lies ahead.
On this day, we come together as a community to honor and appreciate the beauty and strength of our home. From sea to shining sea, Jamaica Bay to the Atlantic, our diverse landscapes, vibrant cities, and tight-knit towns are a testament to the vastness and uniqueness of our great nation.
At Greenhouse Cafe, we are proud to serve and support our local community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate with loved ones, neighbors, New Yorkers, and fellow Americans. So, as we enjoy the festivities, the fireworks, and the company of those we hold near, let us also take a moment to reflect on the values that bind us together and the profound significance of our flag.
From our Greenhouse Cafe family to yours, we wish you a joyful and meaningful Independence Day. May the stars and stripes forever wave, reminding us of the strength, resilience, and unity that define our nation. Happy 4th of July!

Behind the Beans:
Meet Layla, she was born and raised in Rockaway. She is new to the Greenhouse family, but worked at Claudettes for about 2 years. Not only is she a hard working but always has a smile and an all around friendly barista!
“My favorite part of my job is making the drinks themselves, it really is an art form and I am always learning something new about coffee. Personally, my favorite drink is an iced matcha latte with almond milk.
Right now I am working on my bachelor’s in Biology. In the future I plan to go on to graduate school and become a licensed physical therapist. I’m very family oriented so outside of work you can most likely find me with them or my friends. When I’m by myself I really enjoy listening to music. Specifically, I most enjoy rap and alternative music.”
Thank you for your hard work and joining us in Greenhouse, if you see her come on in and say hello!
Behind the Beans: Imane
Meet another one of our employees! She’s lived in Rockaway for almost her whole life and went to school here but her favorite time in Rockaway is the summertime.
“I have a Shih Tzu mix dog named Dior that I love to walk on the boardwalk. I love that we get to appreciate our surroundings and the beauty of the beach.
I’ve been working with Greenhouse for about two months. Currently my favorite drink to have is a Chai Latte. I always love having conversations with all my customers and giving them a warm welcome when they come in.
Besides work I am currently going to Queens College and studying Environmental science and gender women studies. My associates was in modern language French.
I would say my favorite thing about working at Greenhouse is meeting new people, the overall ambience of our Cafe and being right by the beach.”
Behind the Beans: John + Yarden
Here on another week of Behind the Beans, our staff sat down with the owners to highlight the two brothers responsible for creating the idea of the Greenhouse Cafe. Some of you may know them but if you don’t here are some fun facts about them both!
Origins:
J: I was born in Israel and spent a year in France as a baby before returning to Israel. At the age of 7, my family and I moved to here to Rockaway Beach.
Y: My roots are firmly planted right here in Rockaway. I spent my formative years at PS114, then moved on to Scholars Academy for high school. I ventured out to college in NJ, but I came right back home to the Rockaways. I couldn't resist the siren call of sharing my passion for family and food with my hometown. It's where my whole life is.
Starting the Brand:
J+Y: We opened the Greenhouse Cafe almost 2 years ago to date with the help of the team . It's been an amazing journey so far and we've gotten to learn so much about food and beverage operations from a perspective that's so different from our own.

Behind the Beans: Derrick
Meet one of our newer employees Derrick! He grew up in a small Hudson River town in Westchester, NY called Ossining.
“I got to Rockaway by fate. I’ve envisioned living close to the water, wrote it down and the universe did the rest. I’ve been at Greenhouse for a month. I enjoy sharing good vibes with each customer I meet/serve. My favorite drink to make is a Matcha Latte, because green is one of my favorite colors”.
On his off time Derrick sells seamoss, which is a mineral dense superfood found in the Caribbean ocean used for medicinal purposes and one of his favorite things to do outside of work is to play/create and listen to music.
So far Derrick has been great and has helped us provide great service to the community in the Rockaway’s. His greatest hope is to impact the greatest amount of people in a positive way. If you’re in the area come stop by and say hello!
At Greenhouse Cafe, our team members are our heart and soul. Our talented baristas each bring their own unique personality and expertise to the table.
That's why we're excited to introduce you to our “Behind the Beans” series. In this series, we'll be featuring different members of our team each week giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what makes them so special.
You'll get to meet our baristas, learn about their favorite drinks, and see them in action as they craft beautiful latte art.
*** Meet Claire! ***
She was born and raised in Brooklyn. Her two dogs (Hercules and Rey) are her world. For the music lovers she enjoys sharing her taste in vinyls/records, so if you have any favorites, be sure to let her know! While speaking to her on this she sa
I’ve always felt a connection through music. It’s how I was able to express my emotions when I can’t find the right words. I love all kinds of music but my favorite artist is Stevie Wonder along with my favorite era of music being from the 60-70s.”
As a Barista she’s been at Greenhouse for about a year now, and has been with the same owners/crew for about 2 and a half years. “I’ve always liked and enjoyed coffee but working at Greenhouse, I’ve grown an appreciation towards it. Learning and absorbing the whole coffee process has been so much fun. I think the most important factor is making the best coffee is radiating positive energy while making it, and that’s what I love doing everyday. If I can make Rockaway smile one cup of coffee at a time then it’s been a great day at the cafe.”
We can't wait to share more of these stories with you and give you a glimpse into the personalities and talents that make Greenhouse Cafe such a special place.
