The DEA regrets to announce the passing of retired Detective Second Grade James F. McDonnell, who passed away on July 16, 2024 — two months shy of his 100th birthday.
Detective McDonnell was appointed to the New York City Police Department on July 1, 1947. His first assignment was at the 43 Precinct, which was then located in Westchester Square in The Bronx. Then-Police Officer McDonnell was promoted to Detective on April 1, 1950, and assigned to the 17 Precinct “Midtown” Squad. In May of 1959, he was promoted to Detective Second Grade. By 1965, McDonnell was assigned to the District Attorney’s Office. He received six medals and numerous commendations during his career in the NYPD, and retired September 1, 1971, out of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Squad.
Our prayers are with his loved ones. May he Rest In Peace.

The parole board members should be ashamed of themselves — and on Election Day we must send a message to every politician who remains quiet about the 42 cop-killers released in New York.”
