Set in the year 2039, 'Kitty AI' from Pinar Yoldas depicts a future where an artificial intelligence in the form of a digital kitten becomes the first non-human governor. The film offers a humorous yet critical exploration of automated governance, more-than-human forms of intelligence, and affective computing, a field of research and development building systems and devices that can recognize, interpret, simulate and influence human emotions.

GALLERY 151 is pleased to present SYNÆSTHESIA, a multisensory installation by New York-based photographer and filmmaker, Ashley G. Garner in collaboration with Wallplay.

The synesthesia phenomenon is traditionally thought to be a synaptic overlapping of senses; such as hearing color or associating sound with scent. Garner has synthesized dyes, influenced by color psychology, with symbolic flora to elucidate this phenomenon in viewers with a six-part video series featuring audio compositions by ALURIA. Solfeggio frequencies, an ancient six-tone musical scale speculated to have healing properties, are explored physically within the exhibition space.

Wallplay has created multi-sensory meditation stations for each of the six videos & audio compositions. Each video station features a still image and live flowers, paired with an essential oil blend & colored light that connects with a corresponding chakra. Participants are seated on meditation cushions and immersed in a symphony for the senses. The stations create a multidimensional path for participants to journey through Garner’s work.

Together, visitors can explore their inner world and entertain different states of consciousness while traveling through each tone in the Solfeggio scale. Wallplay’s installation design connects ALURIA’s healing Solfeggio compositions as a singular chorus, which can be experienced individually or fully when standing at the center of the gallery.

“The vastness of the universe and everything within it can be simplified as the output of energy by unique vibrational frequencies. Using techniques, such as brainwave entrainment, which “tunes” the brain to a specific frequency, it is theoretically possible to influence different states of consciousness.” -Ashley G. Garner

Exhibiting SYNÆSTHESIA in physical spaces will be an ongoing collaboration between Ashley G. Garner and Wallplay. Over the next year, the series will evolve and be scaled through collaborations with technology & wellness partners to reach a wide audience in mixed reality settings.

Why go to Miami for Art Basel if you can scroll through your instagram feed?

This is the question we asked ourselves when deciding if we wanted to go to Miami for Art Basel this year.

We decided to create an art experience that would transport people to Miami without having to wait on lines while the list is getting checked, deal with uber traffic, have your feet hurt, or see the same people you see in New York in Miami. Now you can see them in New York this coming weekend!

Welcome to META MIAMI, where there's no FOMO, because truly we are all connected.

There will be buckets of sand, beach chairs, sun light lamps and humidity in a bottle. Gallery 151 and Wallplay Chelsea are two spaces connected by glass doors in the middle. In the East space Nitemind will takeover with a metaphysical light art installation; on the West side, Imaginary Media will be projecting a live stream of instagram feeds from Miami so we can see what's going on in real time.

Wallplay representatives on site in Miami will be Facebook live streaming their experience at art parties and fairs. Wallplay has two installations in Miami for Basel, but our curatorial team decided to stay in NYC and keep you warm where it counts.

Join us for META MIAMI, it's so meta.
