From house fire to 9/11 hero’s sidekick: NYC honors service dog’s extraordinary  journey.
Today we honor the legacy of 9/11 hero dogs Salty & Roselle with the 1st annual Service Animal Recognition award.

We also recognize the important role service animals play beyond 9/11. Halona, a rescue dog, saved her family from a fire and now serves as a service animal to 9/11 firefighter Tom Prin.

Service animals provide invaluable support and independence to people in need every day.

As the sun set at Ground Zero and at Ten House, the fire station that first answered the call on 9/11, its motto ‘Still Standing’ echoing through the years, NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol & his family joined the FDNY community in a poignant ceremony of remembrance.

Together, they honored the 343 fallen FDNY heroes and all those lost on that tragic day. 23 years later, their courage and sacrifice remain a beacon of inspiration, their legacy a driving force behind our unwavering commitment to building a safer, stronger, and more resilient New York City, where their memory will forever shine bright.

Observing a moment of silence today to remember our city’s darkest hour.

23 years after the tragedy of 9/11, NYC Emergency Management honors the fallen & salutes the heroes.

WTC Building 7 was the location of our HQ, spanning 46K sq ft on the 23rd floor, bringing  together representatives from all levels of government. It was destroyed on 9/11, but the resilience of our great city endures. These photos remind us of how it used to be.
