CALL TO ARTISTS
ECVA is pleased to announce its next exhibition, “The Jesus Movement: Loving, Liberating and Life-giving.” The exhibition will present artworks conveying the theme of the 2018 General Convention of the Episcopal Church and will be digitally displayed at ECVA.org. ECVA members Frank and Victoria Logue will curate.
CURATORS' STATEMENT
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry refers to our church as the Episcopal Branch of the Jesus Movement, making clear that we Episcopalians are part of the larger work of what God is doing in our world. An Episcopal Task Force on Social Media created a Tweet length definition of Episcopal evangelism: "We seek, name and celebrate Jesus' loving presence in everyone's stories - then invite people to MORE."
The Good News of Jesus is not self-centered, but directed outward. Bishop Curry wrote in Following the Way of Jesus that God came in the person of Jesus to show us how to be reconciled to one another and all creation, so that we might move from the nightmare our world has become to reflect God's dream: "None left out. None shut out as enemies. None broken and tossed aside. All of us beloved. All of us reconciled."
Visual artists seek, name, and celebrate God's Loving, Liberating and Life-giving presence in ways that invite the viewer to a deeper engagement with the movement of the Holy Spirit. Artists work beyond the limits of language to inspire, provoke, and challenge us to see our world anew. In every age, artists have used their vision to deepen our understanding of God. This vital contribution to the church has offered those outside the faith a way to experience the Jesus Movement and share the Good news without words.
In our increasingly fragmented world, the Gospel of Jesus continues to be the Good News for which society hungers without knowing what will satisfy the longing. Artists have a singular way to draw those who hunger closer to the Bread of Life. From the icon of Christ Pantocrator at the base of Mount Sinai to Dali's depictions of the crucifixion, artists have offered a unique lens through which to see God's dream. This exhibition seeks to share afresh the Loving, Liberating and Life-giving Gospel in which all are connected to their creator and none are left out.

Peace on Earth---
During Advent, we have been posting images from our current exhibit for you to use for the centering practice of visio divina. Each weekly album has been based on a portion of the bidding prayer from Advent Lessons and Carols. So, now, in this last week of Advent we offer these images and also invite you to visit our webpage at ecva. org.
Dear People of God: Let us remember before God his pure and lowly Mother, and that whole multitude which no one can number, whose hope was in the Word made flesh, and with whom, in Jesus, we are one for evermore.
During Advent, we would like for you to join us in the centering practice of visio divina. We will be posting weekly albums of images from our current exhibit that you may wish to use and we invite you to look at images from our previous exhibits posted on our website, ecva. org. Each weekly album is based on a portion of the bidding prayer from Advent Lessons and Carols.
Dear People of God: Let us pray for the needs of the whole world, for peace and justice on earth, for the unity and mission of the Church for which he died, and especially for his Church in our country and in our cities.
And because he particularly loves them, let us remember in his name the poor and helpless, the cold, the hungry, and the oppressed, the sick and those who mourn, the lonely and unloved, the aged and little children, as well as those who do not know and love the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dear People of God: In the season of Advent, it is our responsibility and joy to prepare ourselves to hear once more the message of the Angels, to go to Bethlehem and see the Son of God lying in a manger.
Let us hear and heed in Holy Scripture the story of God's loving purpose from the time of our rebellion against him until the glorious redemption brought to us by his holy Child Jesus, and let us look forward to the yearly remembrance of his birth with hymns and songs (and art) of praise-----

Do take time to read the artist statements in this exhibition, each cloaking an invitation to enter the thin spaces these ECVA artists inhabit. Their art is a visual journal of their spiritual inquiry; as Emerson writes, they "go where there is no path and leave a trail," this trail, this art.
ECVA - Telling God Stories Exhibition - Richard Bellows Artist Statement: Richard Bellows photographed this picture of God playing with leaves and their reflection on water. It may look as if it were a distortion of reality, but it is real, as proven by the pine needles and debris floating on the surface of the water.

The O Antiphons -
Praising The Names Of Jesus
ECVA’s exhibition, “The O Antiphons - Praising the Names of Jesus”, features the work of more that fifteen artists employing a wide range of media. The call for artists was issued during Advent 2016.
The exhibition was curated by Dr. Paula Artac, a professional watercolor artist, art therapist, university instructor, liturgical art designer, illuminator and author. She writes in her introductory statement, “Advent is the ideal time to create our sacred space to reflect on the identity of Jesus, as prayed in the O Antiphons, and to experience His tangible presence, the incarnate proof of God’s love for us.”
