What really is a “Knot”? 🤔

A knot is an adhesion in the tissue of the muscle; a spasm that causes a small portion of muscle to tense up. It can be uncomfortable and commonly shows up in tense areas of the neck, shoulders, back and legs.

What can cause Knots?
🪢 Strenuous workouts
🪢 Repetitive movements that can make the muscle tense up
🪢 Performing a task in a sitting position for too long (commonly causes knots in the upper back or legs)
🪢 Sitting at a desk or driving a car for a long time

We all can agree massages feel amazing, but are they scientifically proven to aid in muscle recovery? Actually, yes! In 2021 scientists at Harvard and the Wyss Institute found that massage helped injured muscles heal faster and stronger than untreated muscles. This is because the compression squeezed inflammation-causing cells out of the muscle tissue.

➡️ Swipe to see the difference! Immunofluorescence images show that when an injured muscle is treated (right), its muscle fiber type composition changes compared to untreated muscles(left). The composition of the treated muscle is more similar to that of healthy muscle, implying that treatment helps restore proper muscle function.
