Approximately 5,300 students are living in NYC's Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers (HERRCs). Many of these kids are without with the school year right around the corner. ICNY, along with fantastic partners, has set our aim to provide these kids with what they need to thrive in school this year. So far, we've secured donations of backpacks so that every kid will have a backpack for the first day of school. But here's where you come in – we need your help to fill those backpacks with high quality school supplies.
There are two ways you can give. Follow this link to provide to our general school supplies fund: https://interfaithcenter.salsalabs.org/backpacks2024/index.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=c20981d9-a676-433a-a2e8-8d756a21f47d

Congratulations to the 2024 cohort of teachers at the completion of our of New York Summer Institute! These educators from diverse locations across America came together for this 3-week National Endowment for the Humanities-funded program in New York City, acquiring knowledge, experience and tools to help them teach creatively and effectively about religious diversity in public, private and parochial schools around the United States. It has been an honor for us to work with them, and we wish them all tremendous success!

This week, the teachers in our summer institute took the subway out to Flatbush in Brooklyn to visit a Vodou community in Little Haiti. Our hosts talked with us about how contemporary Vodou is practiced in everyday life, and performed a special spiritual ritual of praise for Haitian ancestors. We are always grateful when a welcoming faith community like this one invites us to learn about their tradition.
