As someone with no skin in the game for JKD politics, I often like to sit back and read the arguments on both the “original JKD” and the “JKD concepts”, all claiming to understand the mind of someone most of them have never met, namely Bruce Lee. 🐉🐲

In essence, people are just justifying what they prefer to do as a hobby with their precious time on this earth. Why do people really care how other people want to practice? Their martial arts is beyond me. These are almost a never discussions, but rather virtue signaling sessions of why they understood something their interlocutor did not.

Wing/Ving Chun/Tsun politics are equally stupid. My advice for Wing Chun practitioners – go read JKD politics, or the politics of Mas Oyama’s karate and realize that outsiders care about your politics as much as you do about those.

I’m back in training to get to where I was (and beyond), but my self-value is not be wrapped up in anything but being appreciative for what I have now. This might be the first time in my life I’m ok with not being where “I want” physically.

I’m happy for the challenge as it gives me a goal to work towards.

Wing Chun in its various flavors generally promotes the use of simultaneous offense and defense, counter attack, or preemptive movement against and incoming attack.

So why all the “blocking” in the Ip Man movies? Because they look more visually impressive and have to break the monotony of what would always be a short exchange.

Often imitated, never duplicated.

One of my heroes in the world of Yip Man Wing Chun, the late Wong Shun Leung, King of Talking Hands, passed away 27 years ago. He was a real Kung Fu Genius. His influence on the art, its reputation, and perhaps its most famous export Bruce Lee is undeniable. Regardless of lineage, everyone should know about Wong Sifu. You must know your history to know where you came from and to know where you’re heading.

I was recently asked hypothetical about what advice I would’ve given the 18-year-old me on the first trip to Hong Kong in 1996. One of the things I would’ve told that version of me is to go visit WSL.

The Internet gives us access to a lot of information, but also creates a lot of false narratives. There was an awful page that posts photos of Bruce Lee alongside completely fabricated stories. I’m curious if Beerdy goes there for info.

They took this photo of Bruce Lee performing a break fall on a mat on the side of ETD and cropped out the mat and claimed this was Bolo beating him in a fight, although Bolo is not even in the photo.

Social media is nonsense.

This was the same day as “the fight” between Bruce and WAN Sifu according to professional YouTube liar Beerdy. A fight never happened.
