New restrictions on travelling with dogs to the U.S. starting August 1, 2024 🐕

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is implementing new rules regarding the import of dogs to the United States.

The CDC requires that all dogs arriving in the U.S. must be at least 6 months old, have an implanted ISO microchip, appear healthy upon arrival, and have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt with possible additional documentation, including an air waybill.

❗️ The change in requirements may impact airlines’ policies on travelling with dogs. If you plan to travel with a dog to the U.S. after August 1, please contact your airline for further instructions.

Step back in time and discover the history of Finns in Sunset Park, Brooklyn on a guided walking tour of Finntown! 🇫🇮

In the early 1900s, Sunset Park was home to the largest concentration of Finns in New York City, and though most have since gone from Brooklyn, they left behind their co-operative spirit. The Finns built the first non-profit co-operative apartment buildings in the nation, many of which are still standing today!

On this guided group walk, you will hear about the fascinating history of Finns in this neighborhood from your guide Robert Alan Saasto, Esquire, an active in the Finnish-American community, who was born in one of the more than 30 Finnish co-ops, which have recently received landmark designation.

The walk is organized by the Consulate General of Finland in New York as part of Jane's Walk NYC 2024. Jane's Walk is a movement of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs (1916-2006), a writer, urbanist, and activist who championed a community-based approach to city-building. Jane's Walk NYC is hosted by The Municipal Art Society of New York

Alexander Stubb is former Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Foreign Minister who got his BA in South Carolina and PhD in the UK.

Mr. Stubb's first day in office will be 1 March 2024.

ℹ️The advance voting for the 2nd round of the Finnish Presidential elections was organized at 18 polling stations across the US from January 31 to February 3, 2024. The second round of advance voting attracted a total of 3383 Finns in the US to cast their votes for the next President of Finland 🇫🇮

💡The number of Finnish voters in the US increased by 266 compared to the first round. The most popular advance polling station was Lake Worth, Florida, with 709 votes – including some famous Finns in the US like Olli Määttä of Detroit Red Wings!

We’re happy to announce that the Consulate General of Finland in New York was the second most popular polling station with 536 votes 🗳️ (And New York was graced by the presence of the cutest voting supervisor, Diplodog Arthur, pictured here)

📨All the voting ballots cast in the US have now arrived for official vote counting in Finland. Remember to tune in for the results on the election day this Sunday, February 11, 2024!
