How you do organize a solar eclipse party?.... You planet!
Today, we had the incredible opportunity to witness a solar eclipse right in our own city 🌙
This rare event was a perfect opportunity for our students to get out into the city for some experiential learning and be reminded of importance of taking a moment to appreciate the world around us.
Throwback Thursday! ⏮️
Spring has finally sprung and with those sunny days ahead, we're excited for our students to continue to embark on adventures in this wonderful city! Whether we're riding the ferry, enjoying a picnic in the park or exploring the playground, those moments leave a lasting impression.
Being located in the heart of the city, our students are able to consider their neighborhood as an extension of the classroom and as the weather gets warmer, you may see them donning their signature green and heading out on an adventure!
Peek into Pine! 🌱
Last week, students in 5th and 6th grade put on a Target Language showcase for their families.
Mandarin students adapted two of their beloved fables into short films. From script to props, from video editing to music choice. It was their choice to showcase their true passion and ability
Spanish students explored the Chilean fable about the basilisk. After in depth research, each of them created their own basilisk using parts from different animals and then wrote a personal fable. Their projects came to fruition as students created a comic, short movie, trailer, brochure based on their original stories and shared their final creations with their families.

Highlights from the first few days in Costa Rica! 💫
As a School Without Walls, students in 6th grade embarked on their first international week-long trip with teachers Anna Rita, Lauren and James! They have had the opportunity to hike up a volcano, have lunch at an organic farm, relax in the pool and make juice from cane sugar. We can't wait to see what else is in store for them in this beautiful country as they are immersed in culture, history, art, and the diverse ecosystem in Costa Rica!
Grade 1 students have been inquiring into changing matter and how humans interact with different materials.
They were invited down to visit the chefs at Cipriani who showed them first hand how materials change during the cooking process!
Thank you for having us Cipriani!
A community call to action!
Grade 2 students are collecting school supplies to donate to local migrant students in the neighborhood. You can drop your donations with the Grade 2 students at the front door each day until March 15th!
As part of their year long unit of inquiry, students have been thinking about how the geography, history and people of the city make NYC unique. Learning is not confined to the classroom at PSS and so students were inspired to look to their wider community for a service learning opportunity.

MAP testing is one way we are able to measure the academic performance and growth of our students in math, reading, language usage and science. The test adapts to each student, therefore giving every student a fair opportunity to show what they know. Understanding where our students are academically helps PSS teachers to develop meaningful strategies for individualized instruction.

Last week our incredible fifth grade students were able to present their PYP exhibition to their families and loved ones.
The PYP Exhibition gives students the chance to follow their own interests and passions by working on an independent, year long project. Students are able to choose a cause they feel passionate about to raise awareness about.
Staff and families were treated to panels, art installations, interactive displays and musical performances. We were blown away by these student activists and we can’t wait to see what they do next. Congratulations Grade 5!
Grade 1 students learned more about animal adaptations as part of their Sharing The Planet unit of inquiry!
