Unfortunately, it’s a common myth that baby teeth aren’t important. In fact, they’re essential for speech development, self-confidence, holding proper space for adult teeth, and much more. Don't neglect your child's dental health!
Make sure your child is brushing correctly! Until you are confident that your child can be independent, it's essential to supervise their tooth brushing to ensure they're using the correct technique and brushing for a full two minutes.
How much toothpaste should you be using? Probably a lot less than you think! Parents of toddlers should only use a tiny smear of toothpaste to brush baby teeth twice daily as soon as they erupt and a soft, age-appropriate sized toothbrush. Once children are 3 to 6 years old, the amount should be increased to a pea-size dollop, and perform or assist your child's toothbrushing.
Do cavities cause pain? Not always! In fact, some cavities may not cause pain or discomfort until they reach an advanced stage. That's why regularly visiting our office is essential for early detection and treatment of cavities. Catching them early on can prevent the need for more invasive and costly procedures down the line. Keep those smiles healthy and bright!
Our friendly ghosts are back for their dental cleaning! 👻 Don’t forget to brush and floss while enjoying the spooky season to keep those smiles healthy and bright!
Pumpkin, apples, and cranberries are not only delicious fall foods but are also great for your child's teeth. They’re packed with vitamins and nutrients that support healthy gums and strong enamel!

Good oral hygiene is more than just a nice smile—it's essential for overall health. This month, make sure you're brushing for two minutes, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist regularly. Start a new healthy habit today, and your smile will thank you!
Make brushing special! Encourage independence by creating a reward system such as a sticker chart, a special song, or a small toy prize for brushing independently! Motivating words and phrases are a great way to kickstart your child’s independence.
Accidents can happen, and chipped teeth are a common occurrence in children. A chipped tooth can result from falls, sports injuries, or even biting down on hard foods. If your child chips a tooth, it's important to let us know as soon as possible to prevent further damage and ensure proper healing. Remember to encourage your child to wear a mouthguard during sports to reduce the risk of dental injuries!
Happy first day of fall! Today marks the beginning of a new season and a fresh start. Spring is a great time to schedule a dental check-up and cleaning for your child and encourage healthy habits like brushing, flossing, and limiting sugary snacks. Let's start the season off right with healthy and happy smiles!
One of the most common types of oral trauma for infants is tripping or falling with a toothbrush. While we're always happy to hear that a little one loves her toothbrush, it's best to have your child sit while brushing or stand in one place while being supervised. And of course, you'll want to make sure that you're the one doing the brushing until your child develops dexterity to do it themselves (usually around the same time they learn to tie their shoes). Stay safe!
Of course we have fun working at a pediatric dental office! 🎉 From making kids laugh to creating healthy smiles, we love what we do every day. Check out what makes our office so special—straight from the team! 💙

Meet Dr. Fatina
Dr. Fatina was born in Brooklyn and grew up in the New York City area. She graduated from Wagner College, with a degree in Biological Sciences and Magna Cum Laude Honors. Finishing her studies in only three and half years, she decided to spend her last semester prior to dental school volunteering and working in the dental field.
Dr. Fatina earned her D.D.S. degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She completed her general practice residency at Staten Island University Hospital. During her training, she found her true passion, treating children and patients with special needs. Looking to further her experiences, she enrolled in a fellowship at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, caring for patients with disabilities and special needs. The year allowed her to successfully treat patients with many different medically complex backgrounds using IV sedation and general anesthesia. Finally, she pursued her pediatric dental training at Stony Brook University Hospital. She served as chief resident and completed her research in helping the special needs population to gain further access to dental care, while mentoring dental students during their pediatric rotations.
Dr. Fatina is a Board Certified pediatric Dentist and feels extremely proud to have been chosen as a Favorite Kids Doctor. Furthermore, she loves teaching residents and taught at Lutheran Medical Center.
