Yesterday my dog Dustin and I had a Dustin day! Dustin’s days are my favorite and they consist and they consist of Dustin and I doing something fun together, usually a new adventure. While in the conservatory garden at Central Park taking pictures, I thought how beautiful this time of year is. The flowers are so colorful and can really brighten up a space. Before bringing that beauty into your home, do you know which flowers are dog-safe and which are not?

Have you ever stopped to think about which training treats are your dog's absolute favorite? 🤔 Whether it's a classic biscuit, a tasty freeze-dried treat, or a crunchy carrot, every dog has their own preference when it comes to treats. Some pups go crazy for peanut butter, while others can't resist a piece of cheese. It's fascinating to see how each dog has their unique taste preferences just like us humans!

So, let's hear from all the dog guardians out there - what is your dog's favorite treat? Share in the comments below!

🐾 Wondering about the differences between rewards and bribes in dog training? 🤔 Let's break it down!

🏆 Rewards are given to your dog following the performance of a behavior. Like dogs, rewards come in all shapes and sizes. They can be treats, toys, and anything else your dog likes or enjoys.

💰 On the other hand, bribes are some sort of reward that is presented to your dog so that they will comply with your request. It's like saying "I'll give you this treat if you do what I say." While bribes may work in the short term, they can lead to long term frustration due to incomplete training.

🐶 So, what's the key difference? Rewards are given after the desired behavior is completed, while bribes are offered before the behavior as part of the cue.

📝Our recent blog post covers how to use dog training treats effectively, how to use treat for dogs who are picky, and how to figure out which treats are your dog's favorites https://hubs.ly/Q02rtQfb0

Fight the Sunday scaries by watching some cute puppy videos as you take the survey I made for my grad school thesis! leashandlearnnyc.com/research

I still need a few hundred more participants, so sharing with any dog lovers you know is also very appreciated :)

Research - Leash & Learn 03/02/2023

Hi friends,

I am working on my research project for my Masters in Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare and I am looking for survey participants.

For the past three years I have been studying puppy socialization, and with the support of Applied Animal Behavior & Welfare Lab at Virginia Tech Association of Professional Dog Trainers, Erica Feuerbacher, and Lisa Gunter (and lots of other people along the way) I have created this survey to investigate how puppies behave when meeting new people. We hope that the results of this research will provide useful guidance for both professionals and puppy owners about the crucial puppy socialization period.

I would very much appreciate if you could take the survey and/or share.

We are looking for people who are:
Puppy owners
Dog owners
Dog lovers without dogs
Dog professionals
And anyone over 18 who live in the United States or Canada.

The survey will take approximately 20–30 minutes of your time. To participate, click on the link below.

Either way, we have an exciting announcement! But today I am so excited to share that our new website has launched! 🎉 Let us know what you think!

It was a lot of work. Mostly for Grant Burke Design who did an amazing job with the brand refresh and complete website redo.
