It’s officially back to school season! 🏫
Did you know? Housing and education go hand-in-hand. 📚🤝🏠 When families have stable housing, kids can focus on school instead of stressing about where to sleep or study. They're more likely to attend school regularly and less likely to fall behind—getting a much better shot at future success.
That's why we're working to build a more just housing future, so every New York kid has a safe place to dream big. ✨
📢 ATTN: Westchester County Homeowners. 📢
Exciting news! We're expanding our Plus One ADU program to incluVillage of Croton-on-Hudson Government, Town of Cortlandt Government, and Town of Yorktown in addition to Town of Bedford, Village of Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, andVillage of Irvington.
What’s an ADU (accessory dwelling unit)? Think granny flats, accessory apartments, or “casitas”. ADUs generate rental income for homeowners—creating housing stability—and provide affordable housing solutions for intergenerational families.

We know how much you love our Net Zero photo dumps! Thank you to the best volunteers from Astound Broadband and for getting down in the dirt to make this house feel like a home. 💪🏠

“I’m doing this build for my family, for our future. All the volunteers who have worked with me on my future home are...giving their own time to help build my family’s home and they’re not only drilling, sawing and hammering with precision, they’re drilling sawing hammering with their hearts! Together we are building a better home for my family, and they are helping dreams come true.”
- Habitat homeowner Billy on his experience working on his new home during the 2013 Carter Work Project in Queens
While reflecting on our work over the past 40 years, we dug up this gem from our East 150th St. groundbreaking ceremony in 2003. 🏡✨ This project resulted in an entire block of homes for hardworking families in the Bronx.
We can't wait to create more special moments like these. 💙
🤔 Did you know? From 2009-2011, over 2,500 amazing volunteers teamed up to work on 16 homes for the Hart-Lafayette project in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn—including Spike Lee!

Our Story
Habitat for Humanity New York City transforms lives and communities by building and preserving affordable homes for families in need, and by uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing.
Founded in 1984 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat NYC has served more than 1,500 families in the five boroughs through home construction and preservation, beginning with our very first build on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, during the first-ever Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project. Since then, Habitat NYC has brought together thousands of New Yorkers each year who become part of the solution to New York’s affordable housing need.
Who We Serve
Habitat homebuyers are of low to moderate income, with a stable employment record and decent credit history. Participants are chosen based on their need, ability to pay, and willingness to fulfill the “sweat equity” component: helping to build their future home or those of their neighbors and participate in financial education. We also improve public spaces, parks and community centers.
