Community Partner and Excellence in Higher Education spotlight!

Recently on USAG Fort Hamilton at a Change of Command ceremony and reception where SSG Bond served as narrator…U.S. Army NYC Recruiting Battalion commander, Lt. Col. John Rocky Rhodes, Ph.D. and City University of New York (CUNY), Medgar Evers College President, Dr. Patricia Ramsey chatted it up about Medgar Evers, a senior college of the City University of New York, offering baccalaureate and associate degrees. The institution was established in 1970 in central Brooklyn.

“Dr. Patricia Ramsey is the sixth and current president of Medgar Evers College (MEC) and the first woman and scientist to hold the position, appointed by the City University of New York (CUNY) Board of Trustees on May 1, 2021. Dr. Ramsey is a biologist with research interests in the biological activity of plants used in folklore. She has degrees from Georgetown, Harvard, and Howard universities, and previously worked as an administrator at Lincoln University. “

The two dynamic leaders talked about the Army Continuing Admissions Program (ConAP), Army Continuing Education System (ACES), Army COOL and the MEC student interests in robotics, S.T.E.M. and medical to name a few.

The U.S. Army NYC Recruiting Battalion serves over 1700 miles to include the 5 Boroughs of New York City, Long Island and Westchester. It is headquartered on Fort Hamilton in the Borough of Brooklyn, and has a career center in Crown Heights and others in close proximity to the Brownsville and Bedford Stuyvesant communities.

Each year, the Empire Battalion participates in a major career fair, the “Black College Expo” held on the Medgar Evers College campus. Empire Recruiters who grew up in the area, often want to return to share their stories of leadership success. The two leaders shared laughs and a commitment to find more opportunities to collaborate in benefit of MEC students, Graduates, Veterans and Future Soldiers who may want to attend MEC while serving their nation.

Also in attendance was a friend of the Empire Battalion and staunch education advocate with a commitment to serve New York City’s hundreds of thousands of military Veterans, service members and their families — Commissioner James Hendon, who is also an U.S Army reserve Lt. Col. who leads the NYC Department of Veterans Services (DVS).

Here at the Empire Battalion, when we thrive so too does our community in which our Recruiting Non-Commissioned Officers and Commissioned Officers live and work - and that is our goal - - to provide life changing opportunities toward excellence and to bring resources, skills and training opportunities to our neighbors where they live, work and play — “Be All You Can Be” is not just a slogan, it’s a way of life. We help you and your “Passion”realize your own goals and in the process, communities are supported and are uplifted as those who have served return home upon the completion of their commitments.

Army Education
The U.S. Army edu benefits are massive and individually tailored to your needs. From the U.S. Army minuteman scholarships - some totaling up to $200,000 in value, ROTC leadership opportunities, tuition assistance, student loan payoffs, continuing education programs and programs such as ConAP, which benefit students and educational institututions alike with the possibility to educate yourself through learning while earning in the U.S. Army - and attaining a degree from your hometown college of choice! The possibilities are endless - with many U.S. Army service members earning Ph.D’s and credentialing while serving, and when they return to home communities - they are ready to transition and reintegrate in business, not for profits, government and entrepreneurship on day one!

Educate yourself and speak with one of our career and edu specialist and jump start your future! Goarmy.com

Happy Pride New York City!

“Pride in All Who Serve—A Place for All”

New York City celebrates Pride with an annual march each year which passes by the historical Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, NYC.

“This Pride Month, the Department of Defense honors the contributions of all military and civilian personnel with the theme, “Pride in All Who Serve—A Place for All,” which serves as a powerful statement that encapsulates the spirit of unity and acceptance throughout the DoD.

The origins of Pride Month trace back to the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, in New York City’s Greenwich
Village, where patrons of the Stonewall Inn stood up against oppression. Their defiance ignited a movement that transformed gay rights from a localized injustice to global call-to-action. The inaugural Gay Pride Parade took place a year later, commemorating the Stonewall anniversary, and laid the groundwork for the Pride Month we recognize today.

This year’s DOEMI Pride Month poster highlights a single table-top tent card with the word “Everyone” printed on it,
visually representing a place for all at the table. The poster and associated Pride Month products help raise
awareness of the Department’s commitment to ensuring an atmosphere of dignity and respect throughout the workforce.”

Brooklyn Bridge Park (DUMBO,) the Freedom Tower and service to the city of New York and our Nation: On Friday, the U.S. Army NYC Recruiting Battalion held its Brooklyn North Recruiting Company Change of Command ceremony officiated by Lt. Col John “Rocky” Rhodes, Battalion Cdr when Cpt. Tyler Stotts relinquished command to Cpt. Zachary Gile in front of battalion and company leadership teams from the Empire Battalion’s other 5 companies, station commanders, staff, family and friends at one of Brooklyn’s most scenic locales — Brooklyn Bridge Park Plaza in DUMBO on the East River waterfront, nestled under the Brooklyn Bridge with both the skylines of Downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan towering over the parkland area with the Freedom Tower setting the tone for the poignant and meaningful military ceremony seeped in tradition. Brooklyn North Recruiting Company serves mid-town and downtown Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn to include Bedford Stuyvesant, and the iconic and most recognizable U.S. Army career service center located in Times Square, New York City.

As tradition calls for; family members were celebrated with Mrs. Stotts receiving a bouquet of red roses in appreciation of her support and service; and yellow roses were presented to Mrs Gile in anticipation of her impending service. Special attention was given to the little ones as well. Family life in the military is of utmost importance and held in high regard. Also, when a service member serves our Nation, so too does their family and we appreciate them for all that they do!

The precision and historical elements of the ceremony, garnered the attention of visitors to the Water Street water-front; who live, work and visit New York City - who were invited by Narrator, SSG Bond to experience the military ceremony and to meet their U.S. Army and the Soldiers who not only serve in the area but also live in New York City, Long Island and Westchester where the U. S. Army has over 34 career and recruiting centers.

Special thanks to Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Laczynski, Battalion Command Sergeant Major and to the Battalion and Brooklyn North Recruiting NCOs, DoD Army civilians and family members who helped to make the day special.

Please enjoy photos below from the day and join us in wishing Cpt. Stotts and his family success as they continue to serve in their next assignment in service to our nation; and welcome Cpt. Gile and his family, as Cpt. Stotts continues to lead now in his new role as commander of the U.S. Army Brooklyn North Recruiting Company.
