Physical and Occupational Therapists Specializing in Oncology Rehab and Lymphedema Therapy NYC/Conn My product is breast cancer recovery.
It’s about healing and bringing you back to life. Our unique philosophy or spirit – Is that it's all about YOU. When someone is recovering from breast cancer, they don’t just have a stiff shoulder. They can’t lift their arm above shoulder height, they’re nervous about what radiation is going to be like, their memory is shot from chemotherapy. Not only are we stretching their arm to get full motion

Everyone at SDK Therapy is working hard with Lymphedema Treatment Act. Org to make this happen
Contact Your Members of Congress!
The Lymphedema Treatment Act was passed by the House of Representatives on November 17th! Calls to the Senate are urgently needed to get the bill signed into law before the end of this year, otherwise we will have to start all over again in the new Congress in January!
Click here to use the Senate Call Action Alert,
which will allow you to log your call!
Here is a quick video tutorial to show you how the Senate Call Action Alert works, and a comprehensive video where board members demonstrate making a call.
Why call rather than email? Although sending an email is better than nothing at all, a phone call carries a lot more weight. One office told us it takes about 100 emails to equal the significance of them receiving just one phone call! Additionally, we are in a time-sensitive situation, and nothing gets more immediate attention than a phone call.
Visit the Senate Call Alert FAQ page for more details.
In most cases you can call any time! Most offices have after-hours voicemail, so if you are unable to call during business hours, or if you would prefer to simply leave a message, you can call any time. Even during business hours calls sometimes go to voicemail.
Another great Zoom in the books! I had the pleasure of speaking to one of Mt. Sinai’s support groups today about Lymphedema. Thank you for allowing me to speak and get to know you all!
Breast Cancer Awareness month – helpful tips!
After undergoing treatment and surgery for Breast Cancer, many our patients will ask us, “How can we prevent lymphedema and what are my risks of developing Lymphedema?” This varies patient to patient, as the three primary risk factors are as follows:
• What type of Lymph node dissection did you have, an Axillary lymph node dissection or a Sentinel lymph node biopsy?
• Are you having radiation treatment? If so, will it be directed at your tumor site or into your armpit region?
• Is your Body Mass Index greater than 30, indicating you’re overweight?
When patients can share the answers to these personal questions, we can help them fine tune what their risk of developing lymphedema is. Risk factors can range from being as low as 6% to as high as 30% or even higher.
Empower yourself to learn what YOUR risks are so you can live your life freely! We are a team of OTs and PTs who are all Certified Lymphedema Therapists. An Education - Baseline measurement visit will help you understand your risk! Call to schedule or for more information.
What comes first, Lymphedema or scar tissue? Many of our patients who develop post breast cancer lymphedema also develop scars that limit their mobility and function. This could be from a mastectomy, lumpectomy or reconstruction. With that, they might also develop lymphedema. Scar tissue that develops around or near a body part that is swelling need to be manually worked on; softened and loosened to help create proper drainage. Left untreated scars can act like a trap door and block the proper flow of lymphatic drainage.
As certified lymphedema therapists and oncology rehab specialists when we are working with our patients, we need to assess what comes first – scars or lymphatic drainage. Often, we will work on both areas simultaneously. However, what’s most important is that your scars are being addressed!!
If you or someone you know are suffering for painful or tight scars it might be worth them reaching out to see one of our specialized therapists. Check out some of the fun tools we use in therapy - dycem, K tape, and reflex hammers. Treat your scar today!!
