How Much Time Do You Need To Ride Central Park By Bike?
So, you've decided to rent a bike and ride around Central Park. To clearly plan your free time, you want to know how long it will take you to explore the entire park, right?
We can try to answer this question with statistics about the park size:
â the total area of ââCentral Park is 843 acres;
â biking loop is 6 miles
â there are 83 miles of walking pathways
â also Central Park has many hills, specially in the northern part.
If you choose to walk the entire the park, on average it takes 4-5 hours. On a bike, you could cover 6 miles loop non-stop within an hour.
However, a new question arises here. Are you visiting Central Park to exercise and just get through as quickly as possible ? Or you want to explore itâs architecture, discover itâs reach history, relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty?
Therefore, depending on your answer you will need at least 1hr to just ride through non-stop and min 2hr up to all day to enjoy the park fully. Moreover, it will be more convenient for you to get from one corner of the park to another by bicycle, creating your own route. We recommend driving slowly to see all the beauties.
We recommend, you should spend as much time here as you can.

Best Places to Explore Central Park in Autumn by Bike
Choosing just a few places in the large Central Park is a difficult task - there are so many attractions and spectacular views! However, if you want to see as much as possible, you can rent a bike or scooter and ride through the park.
What places should you pay attention to first? We have chosen three places in the south, the center and the north of the park.
1) Once picked up the bikes, head to 7th Avenue entrance of Central Park, ride through the center drive towards the Mall. Combination of yellow-red foliage from Elm trees will make a stunning impression on you. Bright autumn colors will give you a lot of opportunities for photos. Then continue to ride towards Bethesda Terrace & Fountain to enjoy amazing architecture and views of the Lake.
2) In the central part, we recommend visiting - the Obelisk (Cleopatra's Needle), Turtle Pond and Belvedere Castle. They are close to each other and you will have time to see all three places without much effort.
3) In the northern part, a large area is occupied by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, moving along the east drive and sometimes moving to the side, you can see many small monuments and artworks. Continue north and ride along the shore of Harlem Meer.
We have offered you just a few options on how to spend an autumn day in Central Park. But even this minimum will be enough to keep in your memory an unforgettable experience of cycling in the heart of New York.

Bike and Picnic in Central Park is a perfect combination
Escape from the stone jungle and relax in nature is the dream of many New Yorkers, but this desire is rarely realized. Therefore, those free days or even hours that you have during the week should be used as efficiently as possible.
The ideal option is to take a bike in Central Park. And don't forget to bring everything you need for a picnic!
Why do we offer you this combination? It's simple!
Imagine that you are standing in front of the entrance to the park. Where will you go first? Will you choose the Hallett Nature Sanctuary or the South Garden? The Harlem Meer or the Turtle Pond? It is difficult to choose because these beautiful places are located in different parts of Central Park.
It doesn't mean you should deny yourself the pleasure and choose only one place. Enjoy your holiday to the fullest - visit all your favorite places! Of course, you can't do it on foot, the green area is too big.
That's why we offer you to ride a bike. With it, you can easily get to the right place, at the same time breathe fresh air and exercise your leg muscles. After physical activity, you`ll want to have a snack - and you can have a picnic on the grass. Treat yourself to a delicious lunch against the backdrop of a beautiful landscape.
During such a wonderful outdoor recreation, you`ll forget that you are in the center of a huge metropolis. And you`ll go to work tomorrow in a different mood - with a feeling of cheerfulness and energy!

Why Bicycling in New York is the best way to go?
Besides having a positive effect on your muscles, weight and general well-being, cycling is the easiest, most efficient and safe way to travel in Big Apple. Here is why: you don't need to spend money on taxi/uber, no waisting time in traffic jams, no need to go to complex underground subways. You can move around the city quickly, freely, and most importantly - safely.
NYC is becoming like Amsterdam, which is called the cycling capital of the world. You can see bikes all over this Dutch city because there is a network of bike lanes almost everywhere.
New York is following the same path and actively developing cycling infrastructure. Over 1,500 miles (2,400 km) of safe bike lanes have already been built here. You can comfortably travel the streets and explore the sights. Public transport will not give you such pleasure, as it only uses strictly scheduled routes. And on a bicycle, you can improvise and choose any road, succumbing to your mood and desires.
Traveling by taxi will cost you much more, and looking at the skyscrapers of New York from the car is very inconvenient. Only by cycling or scootering at your own pace, stopping at every point of interest, you could truly appreciate the beauty and grandeur of NYC.
You just have to get on the bike and hit the road in search of new experiences and emotions!

New Bike vs. Used Bike
Every discussion of bike buying is complete without a look at the used bicycle market. There are pros and cons to both options, and you can get a fair deal in either case. Here are the criteria for comparing new and used bicycles:
Budget â Buying anything second hand, including old bikes for sale, has always been a good way to save a few dollars. That said, our selection of new items is still accommodating to any budget.
Condition â The term âusedâ covers all bikes. When youâre planning to buy a used bicycle, make sure it doesnât have any visible damage or make any suspicious noises. Otherwise, it may end up costing a significant amount.
Brand â Some brands release such robust products that they hold up perfectly well. Even after using them for a while, these bikes remain in pristine condition. We offer these kinds of bikes at our bike store in NYC.
Specialists at Fancy Apple always advise based on the clientsâ needs and help them make the right decisions. Their passion, combined with years of experience, makes them perfect for the job. Whether youâre looking for used bikes for sale or new ones, visit our shop to see the selection of bikes and bike accessories.

Tips on Buying a Second-Hand Bike
Even though a bike seems like a relatively small purchase, you need to approach your decision responsibly. Weâve got a few tips to help you find great bicycles for sale thatâs ready for the road:
-Make sure it suits your needs. A regular bike is best for casual outings or fitness. An electric bike in NYC is a good choice for longer distances. Decide what you need the bike for and go from there.
-Choose the right size. You might spot a bike you love with all the accessories you wanted already attached. But if itâs the wrong size, there is no justification for buying it.
-Learn the bikeâs history. How the previous owner used the bike makes a big difference. Talk to consultants in our bike shop in New York and get as many details as you can.
-Trust the specialists if youâre a beginner. Doing online research is one thing, but actually working in the industry gives the consultants much more knowledge.

Some Other Things to Do in New York in Winter to Explore the City
NYC celebrates many holidays during the winter; it seems like thereâs a different event or theme each week. This makes visiting at any time during the winter quite exciting as the cold weather doesnât deter people from enjoying the outdoors. Thereâs plenty of holiday markets between the end of October and the beginning of February, celebrations around Chinese New Year, along with indoor events like watching a Broadway show or visiting a museum.
Pedicab
If you havenât heard of it before, you may be wondering, âwhat is a pedicab?â Our pedicabs are a pedal-operated bicycle where two people can sit directly behind the driver and enjoy the ride. Itâs a charming way to get around busy streets as itâs narrow enough to get by areas that most cars or buses cannot fit through.
Itâs the perfect alternative to bike riding with your family or friend as you get to enjoy a closer conversation without worrying about the road in front of you. Itâs best to take a pedicab ride during the holiday season where you can be wrapped in a warm blanket, enjoying hot chocolates and the scenery around you.

Tips for Riding Bike in Snow and Ice (Part 4)
Stay Cool
Weâve talked a lot about staying warm during your ride but staying cool is just as important. As youâre riding in snow, your body is working hard to keep you pedaling while warming itself. If you have tight or too many layers, your body might begin to overheat. Dressing in loose layers that are easy to take off can help in this situation and remember to take breaks and sip on water to keep cool.
https://fancyapple.com/blog/the-most-comprehensive-guide-for-winter-cycling-in-nyc/
Tips for Riding Bike in Snow and Ice (Part 3)
Traction
Itâs best to keep enough traction between your bike and the snow or ice, as indicated above. You can fashion your wheels with studs to provide amazing traction â the more studs, the better. Youâll still need to bike slowly when turning but are kept safer. In addition to studs, your technique can help you from losing traction.
You can test ice conditions when pedaling straight by slowly applying the rear brakes to feel how slippery the surface is. Once the back wheel begins to skid, ease up on the brake. This information will help you plan for the rest of the ride by telling you how long it will take you to stop if you need to.
https://fancyapple.com/blog/the-most-comprehensive-guide-for-winter-cycling-in-nyc/
Tips for Riding Bike in Snow and Ice (Part 2)
Turns and Braking
Turning successfully over ice is achieved by keeping the bike upright without leaning too much in one direction. You can do this by leaning your upper body in the opposite direction that youâre turning, allowing the bike to remain balanced. Since the bike is upright, your turns will be slower than normal but will keep you safe in these conditions.
Braking over ice will usually produce a little heat, melting the top layer of ice. Water over ice is more slippery than ice alone. Itâs recommended to use your rear brakes to stop to avoid losing traction on your front wheels because of that phenomenon. Lowering your tire pressure helps by placing more of your tire in contact with the ice, creating better traction, and avoiding your bike from slipping.
https://fancyapple.com/blog/the-most-comprehensive-guide-for-winter-cycling-in-nyc/
Tips for Riding Bike in Snow and Ice (Part 1)
So far, we covered general tips on winter bike riding: cover exposed skin, plan ahead, have fun. There may be some winter days where your routes have packed snow or areas that have iced over. Letâs talk about a few things to know before riding a bike in snow and ice:
Beware of Black Ice
If you havenât experienced black ice before, itâs a thin, clear layer of ice thatâs indistinguishable from the rest of the road. While the ice is not black, itâs very transparent that you only see the road underneath, thinking that thereâs nothing on top of the road. The surface is incredibly smooth and slippery that itâs not advisable to drive over it.
However, you might find yourself in a situation where itâs unavoidable. If thatâs the case, bike very slowly, avoid putting too much pressure on your rear wheel and know what to do if you begin skidding.
https://fancyapple.com/blog/the-most-comprehensive-guide-for-winter-cycling-in-nyc/
Top Tips For Winter Bike Riding (Part 6)
Arrival
Now youâre ready for your journey. You pedal off, enjoy the outdoors, and reach your stop. If youâre stopping by many areas along the way, youâll probably want to leave your road bike somewhere to explore your destination.
Remember to bring a lock (itâs free with Fancy Apple rentals), one that is water or weather-proof, so you can unlock it as necessary. Thereâs plenty of lightweight yet sturdy options on the market to keep your bike safe when not in use. Youâll also want to park away from the curb in case snowplows come along to avoid a heap of snow on your bike.
https://fancyapple.com/blog/the-most-comprehensive-guide-for-winter-cycling-in-nyc/
Top Tips For Winter Bike Riding (Part 5)
Skills
Biking during colder days is not much different from biking during the other seasons. However, the weather becomes more unpredictable, causing your trails and routes to change more often as they get rained or snowed on. You can still safely bike on these routes as long as theyâve been cared for already, and you see a clear path.
It helps to practice biking a short distance in a safe area before taking longer journeys. These short trips build your skills and stamina and let you know if your bike is in good condition. Donât forget to check your bike chainâs gears and brakes between and before rides â gravel, salt, and snow can quickly build up during the winter and affect your bike.
