At the Opening Night party for Watch Night, one of my colleagues from the production said the most moving thing to me.

“Anyone can coach but what I saw you do is reach into peoples humanity and pull out the best in them which was reflected in their voices. That you can’t teach. You’re a gift.”

I love what I do and humbled that God uses me through his gifts. You just never know who is watching. 🙏🏾❤️

Air Conditioning can be a Singers worst nightmare. Many singers lose their voices under air conditioning and it happens instantaneously.

If you ever saw Aretha Franklin in concert, you were probably wondering why it was so hot in the venue. Now you know why. She was notorious for demanding no AC. In fact, during the Divas Live concerts presented by VH1 some years ago, someone thought they were slick and put the AC on super low. During soundcheck, Aretha began to experience vocal challenges and she knew right away that the AC was on. She walked off the stage and insisted to cancel. Thankfully they were able to get her back, turned the AC off and someone probably got fired.

This week I was in sound check at a venue to sing and the AC started blasting. Within minutes my voice felt hoarse and I knew I was in trouble. By the time the concert began, my normally very wide vocal range was limited to a few notes. It’s a devastating moment for a singer.

I have no remedies or suggestions other than avoid it at all costs if you’re one who has this same sensitivity.

Not all vowels are created equally but should they? The Latin based vowel “U” is the universal vowel. It is the soul of all other vowels. If you master “U”, vowel alignment is guaranteed. Come on legato!!!

There are vowels and then there is THEE vowel. Do you know what the most important vowel in singing?

Always great spending time with my mentor while watching the beautiful work he and have created. A sneak peak into their new movie with its stellar cast, left us deeply moved while laughing out loud at times. Can’t wait until they are able to share it with the world.
