"Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue?" Curated by Ellen Hackl Fagan

On view September 9 - Oct 31, 2024

The question is, are you afraid of Red, Yellow, and Blue? Whether you stay clear of these colors in your artwork or whether you embrace them, for this exhibition we'd love a variety of fearless approaches (all mediums welcome) to this challenge, thus continuing the advancement of a new century of contemporary art.

About the Curator:

Ellen Hackl Fagan has been featured in over 30 solo, and numerous group, invitational, and juried exhibitions in the greater New York metropolitan area and Northeast. Fagan has works included in permanent public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe. Her work has recently been the full color feature in print in Post Road Vol. #37 Winter issue 2021. She has been the subject of multiple interviews both on the air and online including WBYX’s radio program out of Yale University, and the New York Public Library’s Artist Interview series. Known widely for her generosity in offering artists opportunities, Fagan is also a fluent and experienced curator; as creator and director of ODETTA, www.odettagallery.com, she has curated and produced over 80 exhibitions showcasing well over 250 artists.

Calling all Queens artists to immerse themselves in the magical realm of our LIC Arts Open Pop-Up Exhibition: ENCHANTED QUEENSDOM. Embark on an experience where curiosity knows no bounds and creativity flourishes amidst the mystique of Queens landscapes and fantastic adventures (imagined or not!).

Visit www.licartists.org to apply

Submission Guidelines:
● Visual artists are invited to explore (individually or as collaborators) the theme through their chosen medium, either 2D or 3D.
● Performance artists are encouraged to propose a short (5-10 min) music/ dance/ spoken poetry/ magic act for the opening night. The performance can be either a solo or a small group (max 3 artists) number.
● Submissions should showcase or allude to scenes of (local) wonder and mystery, be it in the literal sense, or in a more humorous and/or abstracted way. From charming meadows and forests to hypnotizing heights, from mesmerizing creatures to extraordinary dreams and surreal feelings, let your imagination roam freely.
● All submissions must be original works created by the artist(s) in the last year (2023-2024).
● Artists may submit up to three pieces for consideration.

Background of the curator:
Raluca Anchidin was born in Dracula’s land (Romania), where she learned foreign languages and the creative methods of “Communications and PR” at the National School of Political Studies. In 2010, she embarked on a journey to the United Kingdom (then ruled by a Queen), where she mastered the Media & Communications post-graduate degree at Brunel University in London. After 6 years in the whimsical world of Advertising, she moved (with her aos sí) to follow her wild dreams and work in the arts, first in foggy San Francisco, and later in effervescent NYC.
