Building a movement against police violence and systemic racism in NYC.
Our votes in tomorrow’s election will help determine the future of our country, state and city. While much attention has been paid to the race for the White House, here in NYC, there are five BAD proposals on the ballot (Props 2-6), that could seriously damage local democracy for generations. If passed, Props 2-6 will weaken checks-and-balances, give the mayor (current & future) more dangerous, unchecked-power and move our city in the wrong direction.
Mayor Adams is cynically counting on us not knowing about these proposals that he snuck on the ballot at the very last-moment. NYC voters historically tend to overwhelmingly approve ballot measures - we can’t let that happen this time. The descriptions of Props 2-6 were deliberately written to be misleading and deceptive - in spite of language making them seem harmless, Props 2-6 are dangerous and BAD for New Yorkers. That’s why we’ve joined with 60 civil rights and community organizations and 50 city, state and federal elected officials to warn New Yorkers to .
We can’t let these harmful proposals, which came out of the most rushed & undemocratic charter revision process of the past 2 decades pass. Please help us spread the word – tell your family, friends and neighbors to Vote NO on Props 2-6. Don’t let Mayor Adams get away with making a mockery of democracy.
Props 2-6 on the Nov. ballot are a massive con. The language the Mayor's undemocratic & rushed commission slapped onto the ballot is deceptive and misleading - we need New Yorkers to hear why they should vote NO before they go to the polls.
“I’ve had to recount these facts again and again, hoping that those in power would listen and fire Rivera. Instead, my family and I have had to fight through years of delays and obstruction by the NYPD and the administration.”
Samy Feliz, brother of Allan Feliz, in a new op-ed ahead of the disciplinary trial next month calling on the firing of Lt. Rivera for the murder of his brother.
OP-ED: NYPD must fire cop who killed my brother My family has fought to make sure that the NYPD officer who killed my brother, Allan Feliz, is fired from the department.
8 years ago today, JC member/CopWatch/former staffer Daniel "Majesty" Sanchez, transitioned. Majesty was an artist, activist, organizer and Justice Committee leader and a friend and comrade to many of us.
In 2013 Majesty founded . He also helped to lead .
Maj joined JC in 2012 as a member of our South Bronx team. Over the next four years he contributed immensely to the organization as a CopWatch team leader, youth program co-coordinator, families organizer, media spokes person, chant leader and rally emcee.
Please keep Majesty and his family (blood and chosen) in your hearts today and always. And take a few mins to check out the powerful song, Going Home, for Maj by Hasan Salaam https://fb.watch/u-YSKw-iQQ/
10/17/24 will mark 5 years since NYPD Lt. Jonathan Rivera murdered after officers unjustly detained him during a baseless car stop. Rather than firing Rivera, the NYPD promoted him from sergeant to lieutenant since Allan's death.
Let's be clear - the corruption of the Adams admin goes beyond bribes. It includes protecting abusive cops at all costs and it must stop w/ Lt. Rivera. Join the Feliz family to rally at Gracie Mansion on 10/17, 5:30-7:30pm to demand Mayor Eric Adams and interim Commissioner Donlon fire Lt. Rivera for killing Allan Feliz. Bring drums and noise-makers!
5 years ago today, on September 29, 2019, was waiting for a cab at night when plainclothes NYPD officers jumped out of an unmarked car and murdered him. Officers racially profiled Antonio, unconstitutionally stopped him, assaulted him, and killed him in a hail of 15 bullets – some shot from over 50 feet away. To this day, none of the NYPD officers responsible have been held accountable, and Det. Daniel Beddows was allowed to retire without discipline. Earlier this week - outrageously - the chose not to substantiate charges against any of the officers involved in Antonio's murder. Feds indicted Mayor Eric Adams. Now it's our turn to stop his power grab by voting NO on Props #2 through #6 and YES on #1 on the November 5th ballot. NYers deserve better.
🚨STATEMENT: Following tonight’s announcement that has been indicted for federal crimes, our Co-Executive Director, Theo Oshiro, says:
“This indictment, the cloud of suspicion, and the cascade of resignations from top officials has made it impossible for Mayor Adams to continue to do his job on behalf of NYers.”

Today marks 12 years since the NYPD killed in his home. Mohamed graduated from Clinton High School with honors at the age of 16. In 2012 he was a student at Bronx Community College and a taxi driver, who was committed to helping Harlem residents in need
Mrs. Bah called 911 for an ambulance because he was in emotional and physical distress. Police arrived first and forced their way into Mohamed’s apartment, shot and killed him ex*****on style, and then tried to cover it up. While none of the officers involved faced adequate accountability, thanks to Mohamed’s mother’s tireless efforts and supporters across the city, none of officers involved are still in the NYPD.
Please join Mrs. Hawa Bah tonight in Harlem for a special dinner in honor of son.
“We welcome the forced resignation of corrupt NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban. Mayor Eric Adams and other top NYPD officials should follow. In his almost three years as mayor, Adams has accelerated the NYPD’s 180-year history of corruption to crisis levels...Mayor Adams needs to go, too: New Yorkers need leaders who will prioritize our needs over their pockets and political ambitions and we must stand for nothing less.” ~ JC ED Loyda Colón

09/25/24 will mark 12 years since the NYPD forced their way into Mohamed’s apartment, shot and killed him ex*****on style, and then tried to cover it up. While none of the officers involved faced real accountability, thanks to Mohamed’s mother’s tireless efforts and supporters across the city, none of officers involved are still in the NYPD.
On Sept. 25, Mrs. Hawa Bah invites you to join her for a special dinner in honor of her son in Harlem.
Corruption was rampant in Mayor Eric Adams's administration and the NYPD well before the FBI raids: Under Eric Adams, Commissioner Caban and the NYPD are burying 100s of cases of unjust stop-and-frisk, excessive force and other misconduct that the Civilian Complaint Review Board already substantiated.
The NYPD Is Tossing Out Hundreds of Misconduct Cases — Including Stop-and-Frisks — Without Even Looking at Them The department has killed more than 400 cases of alleged misconduct this year that an oversight board had investigated and substantiated. It’s part of a lax attitude toward discipline under the current police commissioner, Edward Caban, critics say.
This is yet another example of the NYPD's bloated budget and lavish spending—enough with the militarized tech toys.
NYC spends $222K on military-style ‘throw bots’ for NYPD in latest tech move NYPD officials said Wednesday the department’s Emergency Services Unit, which responds to various critical incidents, will use the new robots.
FINALLY, after 4 ½ years of delays by the NYPD, a disciplinary trial has been scheduled for this Nov. for the cop who killed . The Feliz family and Justice Committee are calling on all New Yorkers to pack the 1PP Court on Nov. 12, 13 and 15 to demand NYC Mayor and Police Commissioner Caban .

“Allowing Randy Mastro to become corp counsel in charge of 800 lawyers would be a disaster for New York City. It would mean creating a legal regime that supports NYPD excessive force, racial profiling and the criminalization of poor and low-income communities of color.”

A new analysis from Legal Aid shows NYPD has spent $82 million in police misconduct lawsuits so far this year — a 61% increase from the same period last year. This is unconscionable and a waste of tax payer money:

It is absurd that the NYPD Police Comissioner has the authority to retain police brutality cases. The authority to discipline NYPD officers must be removed from the Police Commissioner altogether.
New York Lawmakers Call for Police Commissioner to Be Stripped of Power to Bury Brutality Cases The City Council members’ call for reform comes after a ProPublica investigation revealed that NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban had repeatedly short-circuited disciplinary cases against officers accused of abuse.

Loyda Colón, a director at Communities United for Police Reform, said Rice's resignation serves as an additional signal to officers that they are free to act with impunity.
Speaking about Adams' administration, Colón said, “his dismantling of already weak mechanisms of disciplining officers is especially horrifying given that unlawful stops by the NYPD have exploded to their highest level since 2015, police misconduct complaints have risen by over 50% in a year, and officers are fatally shooting New Yorkers at the highest rate in a decade."
