Making postnatal care essential.
Last month we co-hosted our first event with the incredible team at .anya. We talked about the importance of postpartum care, shared postpartum experiences, learned from other cultures, and talked about ways we can do better as a society. More than anything, we connected with moms. More details to come ❤️
Our hearts are broken watching the violence of the past few days. We are praying for peace and our thoughts are with victims and their families 🤍
The maternal mortality rate in the United States is the
highest it’s been since 1965. If that doesn’t make you
furious—it should.
This week, we’re joining other organizations in getting loud about passing the
Momnibus Act. Back on the floor for a third time, the
is 13 bills designed to reduce preventable
maternal deaths in the United States, and close the
racial inequality gap in maternal health outcomes.

May is Maternal Health Awareness month 🌸. Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) affect 1 in 5 mothers during pregnancy or in the 1st year after birth.
This is why it is SO important to spread awareness, know the signs, and do what you can to support mothers during their journey and beyond.
The five most common types of PMADs are:
1️⃣ Postpartum Depression (PPD): PPD is the most common type of PMAD, affecting up to 20% of new mothers. Symptoms may include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and worthlessness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, fatigue, changes in appetite, and difficulty sleeping.
2️⃣ Postpartum Anxiety (PPA): PPA is another common type of PMAD that can occur alongside or independently of PPD. Symptoms may include excessive worry or fear, restlessness, irritability, and panic attacks.
3️⃣ Postpartum Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (PPOCD): PPOCD is a type of PMAD that is characterized by intrusive and unwanted thoughts or images, often involving harm coming to the baby. Women with PPOCD may engage in compulsive behaviors such as excessive checking or cleaning to try to alleviate their anxiety.
4️⃣ Postpartum Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PPTSD): PPTSD can develop after a traumatic childbirth experience, such as a complicated delivery or a medical emergency. Symptoms may include flashbacks, avoidance of reminders of the traumatic event, and hypervigilance.
5️⃣ Postpartum Psychosis (PPP): PPP is a rare but serious type of PMAD that usually develops within the first two weeks after childbirth. Symptoms may include hallucinations, delusions, disorientation, and rapid mood swings. PPP requires immediate medical attention as it can be life-threatening.
Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day 🌎, and May is Maternal Health Awareness month 🌸. Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) affect 1 in 5 mothers during pregnancy or in the 1st year after birth, and can take the form of postpartum anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and more.
This is why it is SO important to spread awareness, know the signs, and do what you can to support mothers during their journey and beyond. We will be sharing some more information and statistics throughout may so stay tuned and share ❤️
As we close out C-section awareness month, here are 5 tips for a good recovery after C-section birth. Save for later or share with a postpartum C-section mama!
1️⃣ Go for short walks. Light movement helps to get blood flowing and prevents clots from forming. It's also a great way to clear your mind and improve your mental health.
2️⃣ Hydrate. Try to have water within reach at all times. This will make staying hydrated much easier since repeatedly standing is more difficult with a c-section.
3️⃣ Stay on top of pain meds. Make sure you are taking medication at the proper times to avoid breakthrough pain. Setting a timer on your phone can help you stay on schedule.
4️⃣ Avoid lifting anything over 10 lbs. Have your family or partner hand you baby instead of lifting them out of the crib yourself.
5️⃣ Utilize belly bands. Belly bands or wraps can be a great way to get more support, especially in the early days of recovery. Make sure you are using as directed and not over-wearing your band.
It's no secret that the US is far behind in providing care for its mothers, but exactly how and where are we falling behind? In a 2018 study done by The Commonwealth Fund*, the maternal care of 10 countries were compared to US, here is what they found:
1️⃣ The US had the highest maternal mortality rate of any of the countries surveyed.
2️⃣ The supply of Midwifes and OBGYNs in the US was second to lowest in the group. Other countries had significantly more midwives available in the workforce and tended to lean on them much more for maternal care.
3️⃣ Of the maternal deaths studied in the US, 31% occurred in pregnancy, 17% occurred during delivery and 52% occurred postpartum. Graphs 4 and 5 indicate that the lack of postpartum support contribute to these numbers
4️⃣ Of the countries surveyed, the US was the only country that didn't have postpartum home visits covered by national insurance.
5️⃣ The US was the only country that did not provide paid leave to mothers after childbirth.

Ways for partners to support mama postpartum:
1️⃣ Check-in: Things in early parenthood can be chaotic. Make sure you are checking in and seeing how mama is feeling. She may be going through something silently, so checking in is vital.
2️⃣ Make or order nutritious meals for your family: Whether it's organizing a meal train, cooking or ordering out, it is insanely helpful to take the mental load of meal planning off of mom.
3️⃣ Help with household chores: Keeping on top of household chores can take a huge weight off of mom and help with her mental health.
4️⃣ Make sure water is always within reach: Staying hydrated is especially important for mama, but can be hard to stay on top of during recovery.
5️⃣ Listen: Just lending an ear and listening can go a very very long way.
6️⃣ Take over baby care where you can: Wash bottle parts, change diapers, give baby a bath.

We recently had one of our guests say that their stay at Boram was an “ Ultimate Baby Bootcamp” 👶
Education is a huge component what we do at Boram. Whether it’s at our daily Lounge events or in 1:1 education demonstrations in your room, our goal is to make our guests feel more confident with their newborn through learning. These are just 5 of our most popular classes, but we have many, many more! Comment which class you would like to attend most below 🥰
🚨Attn all friends and family of postpartum moms 🚨
Postpartum support can come in so many forms. Whether it’s just checking in, making a new mom laugh, offering help, or sending food, there are so many ways to show up for new parents. Here are just a few of our favorite examples of 10/10 support texts.
We are so excited to have relocated our NYC operations to the . Here are just a few of the many things that we are most excited about 🎉
1️⃣ Central Location
The Thompson Central Park is located in the heart of the city, with short trips to all major NYC hospitals, steps from Central Park for walks with baby, and tons of amazing food options nearby.
2️⃣ More Spaces On Site
The Thompson has several additional on site spaces for guests to choose from. Whether you want to grab a burger at the , a drink at the bar, or a blowout at DryBar before a newborn shoot, you can now do so on site.
3️⃣ Optimized For Recovery
The details of the Thompson make it ideal for recovering mothers. All rooms have walk in showers (no climbing in and out of tubs post delivery), newly renovated, brighter rooms with seating area in every room for feeding and visitors, and an opportunity to book sibling and/or in law rooms.
4️⃣ Expansion
Partnership with a larger hotel chain will make expansion easier for us in the future, so that we can care for as many moms in as many cities as possible. Comment below where you think we should expand next!
In honor of , we wanted to highlight the incredible work of these three organizations that are helping to improve outcomes for black mothers.
Black women in the United States experience unacceptably poor maternal health outcomes, including disproportionately high rates of death related to pregnancy or childbirth. In fact, black mothers are three to four times more likely to experience a pregnancy-related death than white women. Please share these resources, and support their incredible work, however you are able.
Thankful for all of the love our team has witnessed and been a part of this year ❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day
We love our guests! we loved caring for your and your new family ❤️
May your weekend be filled with nice long naps!
"All in all, I felt so much stronger, physically and emotionally, because I was able to get real rest and nurturing before I went home. If we ever have another baby, I'll stay at Boram for at least two weeks!" — Molly.
Nothing means more to us than being able to support new moms during their postpartum journey! We appreciate feedback and are always so happy to learn about your stay and experience ✨
Your postpartum experience matters — here at Boram, and after Boram, too. Our Continued Care Program offers new moms by preparing them for the emotional and physical realities of life postpartum when they return home.

Wishing all of our families a happy thanksgiving! We are so grateful for all of you ❤️
Bundle up it’s getting cold out there! Hope all our families stayed nice and cozy this weekend 🥰
Hoping all our families are feeling refreshed after the weekend ✨
We’ve got your back mama ❤️Whether it’s helping your baby to sleep, eat, or soothe better we have your back. Our care team is full of postpartum doulas, maternal nursing assistants, newborn care specialists, and lactation specialists (for those choosing to breastfeed) ready to take your lead with whatever help you need ❤️
Hoping all our new families have a Saturday with this many smiles 🥰✨
The bounce back culture is one that we think needs to change. Instead of pressuring women to "get back to how they were" as fast as possible, we should be encouraging postnatal moms to set aside time with a purpose ✨
1️⃣ Take time to rest, recover and heal both physically and mentally.
2️⃣ Take time to cherish and enjoy the small window while your baby is still a newborn.
3️⃣ Take time for essential care.
Smile mamas you are halfway through the week! 👶✨
Happy Monday Mamas! Starting the week off with some ✨Benefits of skin to skin✨
Simply having your baby's skin against yours has so many benefits for the both of you. We recommend an hour a day for the first three months for full term babies and six months for premature babies
🙎♀️ Reduces risk of PPD for mom
🌡️ Helps regulate babies temperature which is fantastic as babies are unable to regulate their body temperatures at birth
🍼 If helps stimulate babies digestive system which can encourage feeding
❤️ Helps regulate babies heartbeat and breathing
🥰 The oxytocin produced from skin to skin has calming effect on mama and baby
👶 The friendly bacteria from the parent skin is passed to baby which in turn helps baby be protected from infection
📊 helps stabilize bilirubin levels and glucose levels in newborns
Have you thought about your sleep plan? 😴 New parents are often so focused on baby’s sleep that their own sleep schedule becomes an afterthought. It's important to take a minute and talk about how you plan to get sleep. If you know a new mom, remind her that sleep isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity.......
Breastfeeding is both a physical challenge and a mental challenge, especially at the beginning if your baby isn't latching.
Many moms having feelings of failure if their baby doesn't latch, but we're here to remind you that it's okay, it's natural, you're strong and what works for some doesn't always work for others. You got this. 💪
